Our tech team has launched updates to The Nest today. As a result of these updates, members of the Nest Community will need to change their password in order to continue participating in the community. In addition, The Nest community member's avatars will be replaced with generic default avatars. If you wish to revert to your original avatar, you will need to re-upload it via The Nest.

Had a little scare today..
We live at the end of a street, on a cul-de-sac and today I was coming home from hanging out with my sister, and I see a fire truck parked at the end of the street!! My heart jumped into my throat and I kind of sped up a little to get to my driveway. My neighbor in the townhouse to my right was standing in front of her house with about 4 firemen (hott firemen, too...). I saw a bunch of water on her walkway and the bushes in front of her house.
I went outside with Chloe a few minutes later and started talking to my neighbor. Turns out a cigarette had been smoldering in her bushes/mulch all day!! I told her I had smelled something at about 12:30 when I left the house, but figured it was someone burning leaves and she said the same thing. When she got home at 6:30, her front bushes were smoking!! She was holding a cigarette butt that the firemen found in her bushes.
Kind of extra scary because she travels a lot for business and she's never home, but had surgery today so she happened to be coming home. Today was the day the lawn people came, so we're thinking that it was a lawn person taking a break and smoking.
It scares me because I'm constantly paranoid about something happening (fire especially) while I'm not home and our animals being stuck in the house. At least our neighbors on both sides know we have Chloe so I hope they would at least get her out - I don't expect our neighbors to go looking for our 2 cats who would likely be hiding.
On the plus side, I met a couple more neighbors and they mentioned doing a little block party at some point, which would be a fun neighbor-y thing to do.

Wow I'm glad everythings ok! Our house has actually been on fire 3 times, but not while we've lived here. The woman who owned the house before us loved to burn candles and had a ton of cats. She would leave the candles burning in a room she wasn't in and twice the cats knocked them over and the curtains went up. The last time she pulled a mattress into the kitchen and tried to burn the house down. They tried to make it look like a break in, but it didn't work (she wanted the insurance money because she was about to lose the house).
We also have 2 cats, and when I was single, I was also working at a restaurant. One day I was working both lunch and dinner, straight through. I got home and opened the door to my apartment and I had left a candle burning on my bar!! I flipped out! I couldn't believe I had done that...luckily my cats won't mess with it, but I could have burned the whole building down! Someone was watching over my place that night!

I'm glad your cats are smart enough to stay away from candles! lol
Thank goodness she came home and caught it.
I'm paranoid about fire too. Especially being gone and something happening with the cats inside. I don't know why.
