Best mildew remover?

Our shower is so gross. I've tried several mildew sprays and none of them work. Any recommendations?

Re: Best mildew remover?

  • Bleach. Just be careful when using it as is can be a dangerous chemical; wear gloves, don't let any get on your skin, rinse the surface thoroughly, and make sure you have the door opened as well as a window or fan.

  • I like the Kaboom Stain Buster Mold & Mildew Stain Remover with Bleach.  It has a very strong odor and the air circulation in my house isn't the greatest so I use it sparingly.  Also, you want to avoid spraying it on metal because it can cause discoloration.

The other product I like is the Clorox Bleach Pen.  We have tile in our shower and this worked great on the grout lines.  It's time consuming to trace the individual lines.

No matter which method you use make sure you rinse very well and keep the airflow going.

  • For shower doors I use vegetable oil. Just apply the oil with a towel, then remove oil with shampoo or dish soap, and rinse off.

  • Have you tried Tilex? I love that stuff...the smell is strong though.
  • Bleach is great to use because it's a mold and mildew killer, so if you have any concerns about mold getting into the air, kill it! then move on to whatever can scrape it off . . . If it's really caked on, let it soak in bleach, then use a scraper or putty knife to get it off of there. . .
