We took Satchel to the dog park on Saturday, and there were tons of dogs that he was playing with and running all around with. At one point, some kids started running, so Satchel and a bunch of the dogs took off running after them (it was cute). DH more or less kept the dogs in eyesight, and the owner of a golden and I walked rather slowly in that direction. Her dog came back first, and another owner noticed that he had blood on his fur. Turns out, her dog was totally fine...didn't seem to be his blood. I didn't think too much of it.
About 15 minutes later (Satchel had gone to play with other dogs), the golden's owner approached us and suggested that we check out Satchel to make sure he wasn't bleeding, since she knew he was with her dog just before her dog came back bloody. So we had Satchel sit and we checked him out...and realized that the tip of his tongue was bleeding! He really didn't seem like he cared at all, but it must've been bleeding for awhile to get that much on the golden and still be bleeding 15 minutes later.
So...all that to say, we really don't know what happened...if he bit his own tongue, if another dog nipped at him, or maybe he even snagged it on a blackberry bush while running around.
