lets talk bras

when do you retire your bras?  i know weird question.  i have my good bras and when they go "bad" i use them for more gross things.  like when we move or i know i am going to a sweaty concert.  then when they get old they just live in my dresser collecting dust.

ransom thought of the night!

Re: lets talk bras

  • Basically when they start to look really worn or are no longer supportive. I am so bad at keeping them even if I don't wear them, like you if I know I'm going to be doing something where I'll get sweaty or gross then I will wear an older one. I have like 3 bras I keep in a steady rotation and wear all the time. In fact my dog chewed up my nude color bra - of course, the one I wear the most & can wear with anything! I need to get a new one asap.
  • I also have a nice collection of old ratty bras collecting dust. I should really do something about that!
  • I can kind of tell when the elastic starts to go bad. Or the cups go weird. That's usually when it's time to replace. I have a hard time throwing them out though, so I usually hang on to my old ones for a ridiculously long time  before I suck it up and throw them away.
  • I have a weird breast size so finding any bra that fits me is  rare enough that I tend to wear my bras longer than I should.  I only retire one when I'm able to find a new one.

Btw, if anyone knows where I can get 32Cs regularly, please let me know!  Even Victoria's Secret doesn't carry them in all styles.  WalMart and Target are also usually worthless for me.

Pretty much this. I just spent a couple hundred at VS replacing and am trying to take better care of them. So far I've been good about hanging to dry. I used to just throw them in dryer. At Jaye - I measure a 32D and can find them at VS from time to time but mostly just buy 34C's. If you go up a "rib" size, just go down a cup size if that makes sense.
  • It takes me forever to throw away bras.  Over the past five years my weight - and bra size - has gone up, down, and up again, so I have some from all sizes.  I should really throw away the A cups though, I doubt they'll ever shrink that much again.

  • I wear mine until they fall apart, lol! Basically until the wire pokes through or a strap breaks. Some I have gotten rid of because they don't fit right anymore. My weight has yo-yo'd a lot since I was a teen and the girls have yo-yo'd as well.

This exactly!  I feel your pain...try finding a 32DD...the ASSume the bigger the cup you should also be bigger around!  I've had good luck with Avon, actually or try figleaves.com

  • I usually know when the bra is starting to lose support, and I do something a little weird with them.  The unfortunate thing about having D's is that they make working out an absolute pain.  Sports bras just don't quite do it for me, so I'll wear one of my old bras underneath a sports bra.  It gives me just enough support to keep the girls from bouncing  around.
