diva cup on mirena?

Hi there, I just discovered what a diva cup was while reading some of the message boards.  I got really excited to use it, then realised that I might not be able to with an IUD in place.  Any idea if it would mess up the strings or if the suction would cause enough force to pull it out while I am bleeding and the cervix is open?  I have very LONG periods and am looking for something hygenic and can save me money over time.  I hate using tampons and pads so I thought I would try this.  Any thoughts?

    Q. Can The DivaCup be worn with an IUD?
    A. The DivaCup is not suggested for use with an Intrauterine Device (IUD). It is possible for the IUD to become dislodged, displaced or removed when the menstrual cup is removed by inadvertently pulling on the IUD string. As with all gynecological concerns, please consult with your physician.
  • Why would you need it with the Mirena?  I only get my period every few months and when I do it's short and very light. Did you just get your IUD?  If so, then the bleeding should settle down soon.
  • Thank you!  That is what I figured but I wanted to check

I got my mirena in May.  I had a period that started in March and went until mid-August, and it has been about a month and I feel like I am going to start again.  I wish it would take my periods away, but with my history of funky bleeding, I just wanted to be prepared before I start again.  I just have not had time to figure out a rhythem with it since i even though I have bled while on it for a few months, I have not actually started a period while on it.

  • I have Paragard instead of Mirena, but I still use my Diva Cup and have no intention of giving up either of them, in spite of what DC says.  They didn't used to say not to use the cup with an IUD and I think they added it recently as a CYA measure.  My doctor said it's fine.
