Greg went to the doctor today...

and he has SHINGLES!!!

He's been feeling tired lately, he's been complaining that his back/side has been hurting and sore, then a few days ago a rash appeared. I feel so bad, but I honestly thought he was just being a baby! Until the rash appeared I thought he was just complaining when he didn't want to do something, like drive back to his parents or clean the fridge. He tends to complain so much about little things that I guess I've begun just brushing it aside... I feel so bad now!!

His work told him not to come in until it's gone (in about 10 days), so he'll work from home. I have to go in on Thursday and get blood work done to make sure I'm not pregnant and check to see if I have the antibodies (or something like that) to fight off the virus. Here's the thing: I don't know if I've ever had the chickenpox--I can't remember having them, and I don't have any scars, and shingles is very contagious to people who have never had it, so if my blood work comes negative for the antibodies, then chances are in a week or two I'll look like a connect the dots game!

Re: Greg went to the doctor today...

  • Oh man! Unless you were really, really small when you had the chickenpox, I'm afraid that you would remember them. Sad But here's hoping that you have the antibodies, aren't KTFU yet, and that Greg has a speedy recovery!
  • thanks Smile

He just got home and told me that he'd feel better if we could watch Gone With the Wind tonight.

When I'm sick, I watch Die Hard.

OK... THAT is hilarious!!!  I don't think I've ever heard a man say that he would feel better if he watched Gone With the Wind.  I don't think DH has even SEEN it! HAHAHA

    Classic.

On a more serious note... I hope that you steer clear of those nasty little pox.  I had them twice as a child so I should be good to go from now on!  It's going to be hard when your little ones get them some day too!

And PS... I love Die Hard. =D

  • Oh no!!! I hope he feels better soon and that you don't get sick. I had the pox when I was little and remember being miserable. The little scar above my belly button is a constant reminder!

Side note: A couple patients in the hospital I was working at were in isolation because they had an active shingles infection. Everytime I was gowning up, I got asked by a nurse or CNA "You aren't pregnant, right??" Got a little old saying no a million times!!

  • Shingles suck!  I had them when I was 19 and I itched like crazy!  I also had a little nerve damage from them too.  When I'm really tired or worn out I will get pain where my shingles were.  Hopefully he won't have that.

I hope he feels better soon and that you don't end up with chicken pox or shingles.

  • My mom had shingles a while ago.  They put her on the herp medicine (Valtrex)!!!  I teased her a lot saying that she had herpes of the face!  Hers got really bad though.  It spread to her eyes and she's lucky that she didn't lose her eyesight.  Hopefully, Greg's doesn't get that bad!!

ETA:  I have never seen Gone With the Wind... I make a horrible southern chick apparently!!
