Question about fit of dress (pics inside)

Okay, DH and I are going to an event on Friday night. I purchased this dress and I LOVE the dress...but am worried the fit is a bit too young for me.  I think that, maybe, it shows off my ASSets a bit too much but I am not sure.  What do you think about the fit?  (also note, I will be wearing red heels with the dress not black as in the pics below - but the heel height is the same as those pictures below):

 Please be honest!!!

Re: Question about fit of dress (pics inside)

  • Honestly, I'd wear the hell out of that dress if I were you!
  • My honest opinion? You are smoking crack. ;) You look AMAZING in that dress. I would wear it in five seconds if I were you.
  • I think it fits beautifully and is very appropriate on you.  WEAR IT!

  • Ha ha ha. Okay I feel a little better about it.  DH molested me when I tried it one for him last night so I don't think he is the best judge.

I am the only non-VP from my work that is sitting at this table - do you think it is okay (keeping in mind I am 10 - 20 years younger than them).

  • The dress looks fantastic on you, but I think the style is more appropriate to wear out with friends than to a work event with older coworkers.

  • I think it fits your body well but it does appear to be lower in the front like you may wish to tug on it all night (or at least if I were wearing it (HA!) I would be tugging on it all night). My only concern :0)

  • From your description, I was expecting more junk in the trunk. It looks fine, go for it.

  • I would wear something more conservative to a work event, but that's me. I also don't know the environment of your office. That being said, you look great and I hope you do get to wear that dress out soon because it's fabulous.

Its not a work event, its a black tie event. I am sitting at my company's table. And I would not consider the place that I work conservative although, I probably have the most conservative position.

  • Can I throw out a thought? I'm thinking it might feel more conservative if you wear the black heels with it, rather than red. I'm afraid that with that cut and with red shoes, it would be too much. What do you think?

The event is the "Red Shoe Gala" so the red shoes are a must. I think that may be my "issue" though - the form fitted-ness of the dress coupled with the red shoes.......I really feel like IRL the dress appears to be much tighter than in the pictures so I had DH take a ton more pictures but it looks the same in each pic.

  • I think it's very, very cute - and doesn't show off as much as I thought it would. My only concern would be tugging on the dress to keep it down all night.

It wouldn't hurt to find other alternatives if you're uncomfortable in it. I'd rock it, but I'd probably get a shawl or something for the top and call it even.

I agree 100%!  I think it looks great!

  • MEEEOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWW!  I think that dress looks amazing.  And given that pictures tend to add 10 lbs or whatever, that dress definitely does not look too tight in the photos, so I bet it looks great IRL too.  I say OWN that dress and make no apologies.  As long as you're not showing inappropriate cleavage or panty shots, you've got it made.  And with tasteful hair and makeup, I think you'll look classy and fit in just fine, especially for the Red Shoe.  I think that event was made for outfits like that, especially if you've got the bod to rock it.
  • Agree. Wear the hell out of it. I love it!

  • I think the dress is gorgeous and for the event you are wearing it to, appropriate. However, as a pp mentioned, if it were for a work event, I would have gone with something more conservative.

    Have a great time!

  • You look smoking! Great dress.

HOWEVER, the way you have your arms in front of you in the sideways pic looks like maybe you are a little uncomfortable. If you are going to be second guessing and feeling exposed all night, go with something else and save the dress for a fancy date night.

  • Can you wear a short dress to a black tie event? I've only been to a couple (and they weren't in OK) but literally all of the women at them were wearing floor length gowns. I wouldn't be as concerned about the fit as the length, which is more "juniors" in my book especially for such a dressy event. Will your DH be wearing a tux since it's black tie? If so, the dress isn't fancy enough.

You and I have the same butt, so yes, I appreciate your concern, but I say rock it! It looks great on you!...but, maybe rock it on a night out with friends rather than a black tie event with people from work. If you do decide to wear it to the event, a wrap is a must. Even though I'm sure you're not, you don't want the higher ups to view you as "that girl" you know?

Good point - I am not uncomfortable in it - just trying to get the best picture angle!

I definitely appreciate your concerns - however, for this event, even though it is black tie, a shorter dress is more appropriate than a longer dress.  People here tend to break out the long Oscar-worthy dresses for Red Tie Night.

I agree a short dress is fine. I've never been to this event, but I've been to a few so-called "black tie" events the past year, and worn a short dress to each. At all of them, there were people both more and less dressed up than me, and it was fine.

  • If you don't wear that dress, I want it. ;) Not that it would look half as good on me! Rock it and have a ton of fun!

Cool--probably a regional difference. I tried googling, but still have no idea what "red tie" is. Is that a regional thing, too? Is it like white tie?

Red Tie is the Jackie Cooper Red Tie Event. Its for AIDS awareness.

I usually determine the length of the dress by the cost of the table.  The Red Tie Table is usually around $15k - $20k - long dress. I think the Red Shoe Table is $3k - $5k - short dress.
