Hunger Games: Mockingjay? (**spoilers**)

I would love to hear opinions on the book, if anyone has read it.

The end felt a little rushed to me, but I mostly attribute that to Katniss' unhinged state. It almost felt like after Prim died, the chapter that followed may have been a dream. Then there was a trial. Then they were back in 12.

Also, I was surprised to find that I was more affected by Finnick's death than Prim's.

Regardless, I really liked the series.

YES. The scene with Prim's death was so odd. She sees the parachutes explode a 2nd time, then Katniss catches on fire...then she's recuperating. I had to go back and read that scene a 2nd time. I guess part of me couldn't believe that Collins would kill the poor little girl off! But man, Finnick dying wrecked me.

The more I think about it, I really think Collins meant for Katniss to end up with Peeta the whole time. We never really got a sense of Gale's personality (and what Katniss loved about him) until the last book, and then he was kind of a blood-hungry jerk.

  • OK I just finished these.

Totally agree about the ending, and with Mod in the other thread re: the story is better than the writing. The writing was SUPER clunky in parts.  We never really find out why Katniss is an engaging, sympathetic character...only that Peeta and Gale think she is. She's sort of a Mary Sue.

The first two books, the games themselves, were far better.

Still, I couldn't stop reading them. I'm glad they're over so I can get caught up on school reading. :)

  • Finnick wrecked me, but I thought that him having left his wife knocked up was cheap. It felt like Collins knew that Katniss wasn't that sympathetic and she needed to be sure she pulled my guts out at the end.

  • Finnick's death was crap. Here's this great, tragic character and he gets...eaten by a lizard along with a few minor forgettables. Wah-wah.

The more I think about it, the more I think the whole last book was crap.

  • Twitter was having a 5 word review of mockingjay day a while back. Mine was "Should've stopped with catching fire"
