Post below got me thinking about books. I was mildly obsessed with the Gingerbread Man. According to my mom we had to read it every night and if she tried to skip pages I would call her out because I had it memorized.
What were your favorite kid books?
Re: s/o of kids gifts...
Being a preschool teacher, I love books.
My favorite when I was a kids was Goodnight Moon by Margret Wise Brown. It is the perfect bedtime book. Love it, love it.
I also loved it when my Dad would make up stories as he went and lay on the floor beside my bed and tell them to me. They put me right to sleep.
My FAVORITE book as a child was "There's a Monster at the End of This Book" My mom swears up and down I had it memorized at two years. I remember it being my fave for years after. My mom always got really into it... made me help her turn the pages.
As a teacher, I have plenty of favorite children's books. Kevin Henkes and Patricia Polacco are my favorite children's authors. "Lily's Purple Plastic Purse" by Henkes and is greatness and "The Keeping Quilt" by Polacco makes me cry.
But my favorite children's book as an adult is "The Paperbag Princess" by Robert Munsch. I read it to my class every year (even in 4th grade) and they always love it.

I loved If You Give A Moose a Muffin, or at least that's what I think it was called.
My Father's Dragon was the first book I remember loving reading to myself.
I loved that one too! And there was one called If you Give a Mouse a Cookie.
They also have "If You Give a Pig a Pancake" and "If You Give a Cat a Cupcake" now. They're all pretty cute

I loved "The Monster at the End of this Book!"
I think my very favorite book as a kid was about a bunny who wanted wings (Google tells me it was, in fact, called "The Little Rabbit Who Wanted Red Wings".) The bunny wishes and wishes for wings, but when he gets them, his mom doesn't recognize him and won't let him in the house. In the end, he realizes that he is happy to be a regular bunny with no wings and a good family. I made my mom read that one to me a lot.
Kevin Henkes is my favorite author, too! Although, I prefer Chrysanthemum.
My favorites as a kid were Dr. Seuss' "ABC" and "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish"
As a teacher now one of my favorites is "Duck on a Bike" by David Shannon. Really fun book. Also a random one I found call "Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes" by Eric Litwin. Every class that I read this one to LOVES it. I read it to some K/1s yesterday and they thought it was hilarious
