Help- desperately seeking fashion advice!
Hi ladies! This is a question for all you fashionistas out there...
DH and I are going to an evening event where I work and the dress is listed as "hip and chic". I'm planning on wearing my favorite LBD (black satin, knee length, low cut) with either a shrug or cute jacket. My question is this- I want to get some new shoes, and I've been eyeing some of the new high-heel or platform booties (ankle boots). I'd probably get the kind that look more like a modified shoe, if that makes any sense. Do you think those would work with a cocktail dress? And bare legs? Or would some type of hoisery be required? Bonus points if you can PIP any examples of this!
TIA!

Re: Help- desperately seeking fashion advice!
All I have to say is thank goodness I don't get invites that says dress code "Hip and chic." I would be screwed. ha ha!!!
LOL!
I was all proud of myself because I bought a cute wrap dress from Gap and some tights. I went to put it on today and discovered that part of the belt got all twisted when i washed it. I am going to have to work on unreavling it and iron it out. Hopefully it works and I can get it untwisted.
Operation Dress Cute: FAIL
Last year, Brian's work party was held at some nightclub over on the East side of the state. From the looks of the website, it looks pretty "hip and chic". I was so stressed on what to wear because I had no cute clothes, esp after I had my 2nd child, I pretty much got rid of my clothes and started over. So all I had was work clothes. There is only one other person in the GR office with Brian and she said that people have dressed casual in the past, like jeans. However I didn't want to be underdressed for the night club, nor did I want to be all decked out and be the "new attorney's dorky wife". I fnally settled on trouser jeans and a cute blouse. However there was a blizzard the day of the party and we didn't want to drive over there.
I bugged Brian to look on the intra-net to look at pictures from the party to see how people dressed and he won't. He just doesn't understand these things. I will make him do it before next year's party.
OK, to answer your question - I don't love the idea of a modified shoe with a chic cocktail dress. If you do do the high heel ankle booty, I'd rather see strappy whether it is thick straps or just a more feminine touch to the shoe. A modified shoe seems to clunky and will clash with the chic-ness of the dress. I couldn't easily find a picture of this but I love those shoes that have a big foofy thing on the back of the ankle and really draws your attention down to the shoe. I think that could work with the dress you describe.
And curse to my fat legs! I wish I could wear those kind of shoes!
This is along the lines of what I mean by "foofy". The example is a little much. What I was picturing was more of a sculptural ruffle effect rather than the streamers or feathers or whatever that is. Just not sure what to search on for what I mean. this is what I found when I tried "high heel foofy" :-)
Have you made a trip to DSW to see if anything looked interesting?
You will have to let us know what you ended up going with?
I was thinking of something along the lines of this:

Although that's more than I wanted to spend.
It is clear that I don't have fashion sense, but I am having a hard time picturing a bootie with a cocktail type dress. I see this show going more with a ..."heavier dress", if that makes sense. Like a sweater dress, something with sleeves, or a thicker fabric. With a satin, sleeveless dress, I think of heels. But I play things boring and safe.
I could see these with a short jean skirt, skinny jeans, or a dress that requires tights but not a cocktail dress. If the cocktail dress was a sleeveless cowlneck, it could work.
I definitely think you could rock it - a lot of celebrities are going with that look right now. I would just try to go with a different fabric - maybe a metallic leather, regular leather, or something with "pretty" details, if that makes sense. I think these would look great - just a suggestion!

Those are super cute shrades! Love the ruffle too.
I found this online- sorry I don't know how to PIP- but it seems like the booties with a dressy-dress could work...see 2nd pic down.
