Since we're married now (and have a mortgage, car payment, etc) I looked into getting life insurance incase anything happens, DH isn't up sh!t's creek. The guy asked me some basic questions including if I had ever been out of the country in the past two years, if I planned on going out of the country during the next two years, etc. Obviously DH and I plan on doing something for anniversaries but I can't say that we've really thought it out yet... but I said that we probably would go out of the country for our anniversaries. This then led to him discovering we're newlyweds and making a huge deal out of it.
Am I the only one that doesn't get the "newlywed" phenomenon (and yes, I get that my blog's name has Newlywed in it). But everytime I mention to someone that we're recently married, it's like such a big deal! I don't get it... we've been together almost 6 years (living together part of it, combined finances, etc) so what is the big deal and why does everyone keep making it a big deal?!?!
I can't wait until the one year mark when people will finally stop saying it!
Re: Does anyone else get this?
Yes, I hate it with a passion. We lived together, combined finanaces, etc for almost a year and a half prior to being married. The other thing that irritates me is DH works out of town during the week, so I get a lot of the "oh, well you two don't REALLY live together, wait until you have to be with each other all the time, then you'll really see" grrrr

I hate this question too! Like all of you we have been together for a long time (6 years), lived together for over 3 and have had combined finances since we graduated from college. It is really not that big of a deal.

I'm like this. "Congrats" then the conversation moves on.
I would love to meet your friends. It's like everyone expects the first year of marriage to be this big magical experience and it's....not. I mean, I love being married and I still look at DH sometimes like "Wow, you're my HUSBAND now!" but then we go back to watching TV on the couch in our pajamas just like we did before we got married.
I had to laugh. This is exactly what we're doing right now!
ditto!
