WWYD

My friend is moving out of state and asked me if I would have any use for her extra twin bed which she might not have room for in her new apartment.  I said possibly, since we have some empty bedrooms, but that it is not a big need, and to keep me posted.  Well she found a new apartment and will not have room for the bed so she said it is mine if I want it.  BUT - it is in good condition and she would prefer to sell it to me rather than just give it to me.  She didn't give a number and I am not sure what a very rarely used by a friend bed is worth?  It is a mattress, box spring, and headboard.  If I don't take it she will just store it at her mom's house.

Would you buy the bed?  How much would you pay?  I am not sure how much it is worth to me (which is going to include the effort of getting it from her place to mine).

Re: WWYD

  • I would not buy the twin bed. If it were a double or larger, yes, but not a twin.
  • Depends.

    1. Do you want a twin bed in the room as opposed to a full or larger?

    2. Do you want to save money and get used rather than new?  If so, then I'd much rather get a used bed from a friend than a stranger.

As for price, I'd see what they're going for on Craig's List and pay something fair along those lines.

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • 1. Do you want a twin bed in the room as opposed to a full or larger? This would be for our smaller bedroom which can't really fit a full and definitely not a queen.  If we were to put something in there instead of this bed, it would be a futon or sleeper sofa.  We plan to buy a queen set for our other spare bedroom at some point in the next year I think.

    2. Do you want to save money and get used rather than new?  If so, then I'd much rather get a used bed from a friend than a stranger.  We wouldn't buy a used mattress from a stranger.  So it is either buy this or nothing.

As for price, I'd see what they're going for on Craig's List and pay something fair along those lines.  Craig's list looks like maybe $100ish?

I guess I'm just not really sure if I want it or not.  We weren't planning on purchasing a twin bed.  It would be nice to have a real bed for guests to sleep in, but hopefully that need will be met soon with a bed that can sleep more than one guest at a time.  If she was just like "oh hey I don't need this any more, do you want it?" I would probably say sure, but turning it in to a purchase I am making gives me a different perspective, especially since this purchase does not come with delivery and setup.

  • Meh, sounds like it's more hassle than it's worth.  Tell her thanks anyway and move on with your plans.

  • I wouldn't buy it.
  • I would avoid the awkwardness and give it up since you didn't really want the twin bed in the first place. If that's the only thing that would fit in that room and you think you'll be buying another twin in the next couple years then maybe but I would probably put a futon or sofabed in there or something so you could at least have room for two people.
