4 months at a job?

would you include a part-time job for 4 months on your resume?

i currently am a full-time social worker during the day.  i picked up some per diem counseling for an agency back in may (evenings).  I got a new position at day job that is out of a different location and won't let me leave early to get to new job. (The counseling office is only open until 7, and I can't guarantee I'd make it there by 6). I gave the agency a month's notice and terminated properly with my clients.

Is it worth including on my resume in a year or so? It is the only counseling experience I have since obtaining my master's aside from internships.  I learned some valuable skills.  However, I realize 4 months isn't very long so I don't want it to look like I couldn't handle it or go from job to job. If it matters, I will have been at day job for for seven years.

One- from an experience stand point.  if you'll be applying for jobs that will require counseling experience, definitely leave it on.  If you'll be applying for jobs that don't require the skills you gained, eh, maybe it's a toss up.

    But:

Two - work ethic.  Working 2 jobs can show a strong work ethic and that you like to work, work hard, and are willing to do what you need to do in order to get the experience you want.

In the end, I really don't think it will hurt you to have it on there. I think the benefits outweigh anything negative that there could possibly be.

    I agree.

  • Thanks for the responses.  I am hoping that with the new job start date matching with the end date of the counseling job it can explain itself.  Many jobs want counseling experience.
