Wishful Thinking

So since I spoke to my boss a few months ago, things have been better with her attitude. But, she's not followed through with telling me she'd figure out some sort of compensation/raise because a) I've not had one in 2 1/2 years and b) I was doing two jobs. She has given me an extra week of vacation a year so I get 2 now, but she's requiring me to take them before my maternity leave kicks in (which is legal) and because our fiscal year begins October 1 - I basically won't get vacation again until next October which sucks.

Anyway, this morning I saw a note on her desk which stated how much she is paying my friend who is replacing me PT. $4.50 an hour more than I am making. I'm FURIOUS. She's doing my job, and she's getting paid more. How is that fair? And the problem is I can't bring it up to her because she didn't exactly tell me and salaries are clearly private so I don't really have the right to say anything.  I thought most of the time, temps got paid less anyway. So, unless I see a raise in my paycheck (a substantial one at that) on October 1 - I think I'll be looking for a new job after maternity leave ends. I'll continue to work PT from home a little for her because I need the money, but as she's only paying me hourly, I don't feel I owe it to her to do anything for her and won't feel so bad about quitting in February without warning.

Thanks for letting me vent, it's just so unfair.

Re: Wishful Thinking

  • Im so sorry :(  Sounds like she is super clueless, and very forgetful about your talk.  Definitely stand your ground, dont let her walk all over you and take advantage.  Take that vacation asap, and dont take any calls from her while you are on maternity leave!
  • I don't get the vacation till October 1st and because I leave Oct 15 I have to take it before maternity leave kicks in so basically Oct 16-30. It sucks but it's perfectly legal. Oh well, I guess I look on the bright side that I'll get 2 weeks paid off.
  • aw man, that sucks :( is your friend going thru a temp agency? cuz that would make since that it's $4.50/hour more because temp agencies have overhead....if not, that double sucks :(

Nope. And I'm the one who got her hired too. The whole thing is just so annoying. I love my friend, this isn't her fault at all, but really? And currently she's getting paid more than me to just shadow me until I leave.

  • that just does not make sense. i think you need to find a new job where you will be appreciated and respected.
