Feministing calls out sexist anti-Palin t-shirts

After our discussion of crazy supporters yesterday, I was really glad to see this post. (Warning: features t-shirts with c-bomb on them, so if you're viewing this where your boss can see, you might, uh, not want to click on that link.) I absolutely despise Sarah Palin and everything that she stands for, but seriously, so unnecessary.

  • I don't know, I would have no problem calling Bush a "dick_" so I can't see how this is an attack you wouldn't see against a man.

I also have a potty mouth and say _cunt_ all the time, along with plenty of other vulgarities.

  • But did Obama say anything? I want to know if he's denounced these sexist supporters.

    j/k. Good for feministing!

I get your point, but I think it's all about perceptions. These people know that many, many women find the term offensive, so it's dumb to use it. Plus, I think a shirt that says, "Sarah Palin made rape victims pay for their own rape kits" is a better shirt because it will be an attention-grabber but also make people go, "Wait, what?!" instead of brushing the wearers off as immature dirtbags.

True that would be a better shirt.

MW, I don't believe in reclaiming it.  I call people stupid _cunts or stupid _twats.  Usually my sister, and it's out of love.  But yeah, it will never be a positive word.

Don't even get me started on that "we need to reclaim the word" bs that is posted in the commets over there

Is Eve Ensler posting over there now?

  • LOL, I see feministing couldn't get by without putting a dig on John McCain in there too:

And no, just because McCain reportedly used this word to describe women doesn't justify McCain's opponents using it.

Seems kind of irrelevant, especially since it's unsubstantiated.

I thought this actually was substantiated.  My understanding is that reporters were in the room (three, I believe) who witnessed the event.  I haven't researched this beyond what I've already read, so I'll gladly own up to it if I'm wrong.

BTW, I've been meaning to page you.  Have you done a post on your blog about sexism re: Palin from her own supporters?  I'm referring to people like the National Review reporter talking about how he was transfixed by her hotness (my words, not his, obviously) during the debate, the people wearing the "Hot VP" t-shirts, etc.
