I need potty recommendations
I swear, this kid has peed on my floor for the last time! He is being restricted to a wardrobe of onesies or overalls until he is potty trained. Every time he has to pee he either manages to pee on my floor or all over his clothes and I've had enough!
Re: I need potty recommendations
are you already potty training him?
i've got nothing for you on a potty
we don't plan on training for a while, maybe next summer/early fall
is he ready to give it a try? that is key.
I should add that at around that age Alex had used the potty like 2x before his bath but was still no where near being ready to PT.
MIL disagreed with me on this
.
I have no idea, I figure the easiest way to find out is to try.
I'm just going to say this but I'm thinking 18mo is way to young to understand going to the potty. I have 4 kids so I know everyone is different so if you can PT then great! Why is he peeing on your floor? Does he just go when you take the diaper off? Abby does that. I think it's the cold air hitting her.
) I also plan on PT Abby next spring/summer.
As for potty chairs. I don't like them. I think they are disgusting to clean. I'd rather wipe a butt then clean crap out of a toilet seat. Seriously gross. I just used the regular potty. They have all kids of soft seats w/ handles you can use that sit on the regular potty. I just bought those and a stool to use.
He pulls his diaper down enough to get his penis out, pees, then pulls it back up. He never pees during diaper changes, so I don't think it's cold air.
My original plan was to wait till about 2.5. He's just driving me crazy lately. I have one of those potty rings around here somewhere cause I cashed my pampers points in for one. I'll give it a try, if he doesn't seem ready I'll just force him to wear a onesie for the next year. It seems like everyone I know is PT there 15 mo. old or has their 18 mo. old fully PT already.
We have the baby bjorn and love it. just and fyi for when the time comes!
I think the recommendation for PTing is that they wake up from naps and overnight in a dry diaper. That's when they can start controlling it themselves and a good indication that they're ready to train. Otherwise they're going to wet the bed at night. Not saying you can't try now though!!
Charli has sat on the potty on a few times, but she definitely doesn't "get it" yet. She only sits on it because she sees Skyler do it and thinks it's fun, so I don't discourage her but I haven't actually started with her yet.
Also, I agree with Kel and think the seats are kind of gross but .... we do have one. I would just let him pick it out/pick out one you think he'll like.

"Cheese!"
I'll chime in as a non-parent with (obviously) no experience. But to me, if he's pulling down his diaper to pee on the floor, then he knows what's going on, and he doesn't like the pee in his diaper... that, to me, means that giving PT a try would be a good idea. Instead of the floor, he pees in the toilet. That's not to say that he won't still need diapers for overnight, etc. because maybe he can't hold it that long yet, but for during the day, it's definitely worth a shot!
FWIW, I was fully PT at ~17 months, and my brother wasn't PT until he was just about 3. Every child is different.
This is what I have heard, especially from other moms of boys. Moms of girls seem to have an easier time at an earlier age. But then again, every child is different, every parent is different and if you want to PT early more power to you.
I don't want any confusion between underwear and diapers, meaning I don't want to do diapers at night and underwear during the day, I think that can lead to a bed wetter with a kid thinking, I can pee my pants at night but not during the day, IDK, could just be crazy talk, hahaha. I want Davis to be able to go with no diaper at night so I will try at 2.5 and if that doesn't go well I will wait until closer to 3.
I started sitting Jeff on the potty when he was 18 months, he would go sometimes, but I never pushed the issue, I didn't want to make him not want to go on the potty. At 2 1/2 he was ready and we gave it a full go at it. It took until Dec. to really get it to click though and us not having to remind him every hour to go to the bathroom.
I haven't tried night training yet, I don't want to make him nervous if he has an accident, to me it's not worth steps backward. He wakes up dry 6 out of 7 mornings, so I'm not to worried about it, but I don't want the mess to clean up in the morning.
I have no suggestions, as I am not to the point yet (sorry), but this just made me giggle... what a little stinker!
