Well since the board is slow...
I suppose I will start a poll. What is your favorite hobby and do you plan on pursuing anything with this hobby such as competitions or a future career?

Re: Well since the board is slow...
I'm sure most of you know by now my hobby is cake decorating. I have absolutely fallen in love with it. I have entered a cake decorating competition at our state fair. The cake is due november 9th and I have already started on all the sugar flowers. I have told everyone that I am not taking cake orders until after this date because I want to put my whole heart into this cake. I am super nervous but also excited at the same time. I have always been very competitive so I am looking forward to this. Here is a pic of my cake inspiration:
I am very into CrossFit (a type of working out)
"The CrossFit method is constantly varied, functional movements executed at high intensity. CrossFit is the principal strength and conditioning program for many police academies and tactical operations teams, military special operations units, champion martial artists, and hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide. The program delivers a fitness that is, by design, broad, general, and inclusive. Our specialty is not specializing. CrossFit incorporates elements of Olympic Weightlifting (such as Clean, Deadlift, etc.), Gymnastics (pushup, pullup, dips) and monostructural (traditional) cardio (running, rowing, jump rope, etc.) in varied patterns."
You do your workouts in a group with a certified instructor.
Anyways, I totally love it. I have been in 3 competitions so far. The first was to qualify to be on the team for my gym, the second was a regional competition that the team competed in that qualified us for "The CrossFit Games." The CrossFit Games is an international competition that is amazing, but we competed in the affiliate team competition which is way lower lever than the individual competition.
I did not take it up with any intention of doing anything but getting in shape. But now I am even considering doing some of the local individual competitions.
I love to cook and I consider that a hobby, I love browsing recipes and cookbooks!
I also have been doing calligraphy for years for weddings - I address envelopes and do placecards, etc. It has turned into a lucrative hobby over the years! I even have a website and a facebook page. One day, if I'm ever financially able, I'd love to open an invitation/paper store and do calligraphy all the time. One can dream...
*Paula - your cakes are looking great - keep up the good work!!
TTC #1 since 4/10, Dx: MFI IVF planned for April/May
my fav hobby is horseback riding.
at the stables, they have a program for handicap children to help improve their stability and their confidence.
and they are always wanting volunteers. So , this is my future plan...to be a volunteer and help these kids compete. :-)
Thanks! I am excited about the competition... Ive barely worked all day. Ive been looking at how to make those flowers on the cake. I also just found a competition in Ocala that I am debating on signing up for.
@ Paula: Good luck with your contest cake!! I'm sure it'll be great!
I LOVE to sew but sort of suck at it. I don't have the patience to mess with it. If it's as easy as sewing some straight lines with a few curves I can handle it!

I love crochet, knitting and handpainting just about anything! I also write sports articles for a couple of online sites (one of which was picked up and run on the front page of the Denver Bronco's main web page last fall!)...and yes, I have thought about doing more with all of those hobbies, but it seems that after I work, get home, and spend time with the family, I'm so wiped out! But I do want make time to pursue these a little further, because I do enjoy them all!!
On a side note, I just learned today that I'm going to be an Auntie again - woo hoo! So it looks like I'll definitely be doing more crochet this fall/winter!!
Great post :-))
I love to scrapbook. I am currently in the beginning stages to make this a business (can't wait for July 2011 so I can leave my current job).
I also do some crochet (I have a blanket that I have been working on for two years and haven't had the time to finish) and I do some cross stitch....I doubt these will try into anything more than a hobby.
