Do you know where I can find a list of native plants for the San Diego area? I've lived in the Pacific Northwest all my life so this is a big change.
Also, do you know why there are basically no oaks in southern California? We really haven't seen many oaks since southern Oregon but I'm guessing from names like Oakland and Thousand Oaks that they were once plentiful here? I'm just curious. Do people just prefer palms and eucalyptus?
Re: ~NB~
Pleased to meet you. You can find a slew of lists by googling "southern california native plants"- more than I can link you to on my tiny laptop.
I haven't spent a lot of time in southern CA, but I know there are Oaks. I had two consulting assignments for CA this year, both involving oaks, and one of those grows only in CA. (an exhaustive job, but fascinating). And once upon a time, oaks were more plentiful everywhere.
Good luck on the native plant hunt & best wishes.
