So i live in new bern, nc which sucks when it comes to finding a job. When i lived in md nearish to dc it was pretty easy; the company i worked for before i moved here actually found me. It was a receptionist/secretary job which is what i thought i wanted to do after i graduated from college. I then decided that i didnt really like it so when i moved down here i would look for preschool teaching jobs because that is what i had done part-time while in school and have worked as a nanny.
I don't know if i am just looking in the wrong places for jobs or there really arent any or im being too picky or what. I had an interview with a preschool and then never heard back. I put an ad on craigslist to babysit and was talking with a family to meet and everything but never got a called to set a date to actually meet.
My husband is gonna deploy in jan or march so i would prefer to not have to work on the weekends and at night, which kinda kills retail which i hate anyways.
so i am at a loss and getting frustrated. help
Re: am i looking in the wrong places?
How long have you been looking?
How long has it been since you worked PT in preschools, or as a nanny? Do you have references from said jobs? Have you worked up your resume to highlight that experience? Do you have any sort of educational background that supports you wanting to work with kids?
You've had an interview with a preschool? Just one so far? Are there others out there? Did you start interviewing before the school year started, or after? I would assume that they may take on new hires in the fall, but i could be wrong. You talked to a family about nannying? Only one?
It sounds like you've just started looking, and in this day and age you're going to potentially have to look for months. You can't necessarily expect to find something right away.
If your DH is going to deploy soon, wouldn't it make more sense to find something that includes weekends/nights, so that you can fill the time while he's gone?
Is there a base nearby that has daycare that may have openings?
All things to think about, you don't need to answer all of my questions.

thanks, and yea it would make sense to have something that would fill up my time when he is gone, but i dont want to work the only time he is home right now. After i wrote that about not working nights and weekends i realized it sounds like i meant when he was gone i dont want to, i just dont want to right now while he is home and its the only time i get to spend with him.
I moved down in june but went on a 2 week vacation to europe in august and got a new puppy in july so my husband thought it was best for me to stay home with the puppy and look for a job once i got back, so i really have only been looking since the end of august/beginning of sept.
The preschool i interviewed with is the only one i have found with an opening and i actually scheduled the interview before i left for my vacation but had when i got back. And so far that one family is the only one that has responded to my listing on craigslist.

I'm from NC and occasionally see jobs at Tryon Place on the Office of State Personnel's website. http://www.osp.state.nc.us/jobs/
A couple of jobs are posted there now under the Administrative and Managerial section, but I'm not sure that's what you're looking for. Hope that helps.

I live in Wilmington, NC and am also a USMC wife! How far are you from Camp Lej.? They are having a job fair Sat Sept 25th and doing onsite interviews for childcare providers for the CDC. Go to mccslejeune.com then the jobs tabs for more information. They will actually pay to put you through to get certifications, etc.
I have also been looking for a job on the NC coast (Wilmington) as well as many of my other friends and the job market in this area is HORRIBLE. Just keep looking and following up. Hope this helps.
