Help meeeeeeeeeeeeeee. I've read 2 books in the past month, "Mockingjay" and "Rosemary's Baby". I just can't seem to get interested in anything.
What have you read lately that you've loved? And please don't recommend the Larsson series, I already have those waiting in the wings.

I bet her FUPA's name is Shane, like the gunslinger/drifter of literature.--HappyTummy
Re: I'm in a reading funk
I have a review of The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake up today. It was SO good. Definitely one of my favorite books in a long time. There was lot of sitting in the car after I'd already gotten where I was going, just to listen longer.
The nerve!

I have that on my Kindle already! Score!
I reeeeeaaaalllllly want to read this, but I'm cheap: http://www.amazon.com/Room-Novel-Emma-Donoghue/dp/0316098337

Room is definitely next on my list. My mom got me a Kindle for my birthday and it is being delivered tomorrow! I'm really excited. So, I think this will be the first book I get if it is available.
If you liked Water for Elephants, Sara Gruen just came out with another book called Ape House. Doesn't seem like something that would interest me, so I think I'm going to steer clear.
I'm finishing the Larsson series soon and am also looking for something good to read.
On a related note, Ian is in a reading rut too. He loves his books, but is stuck on one particular book that I read to him seven times before dinner last night. I finish it, he takes it and turns the pages, then hands it back to me to read again. I have it memorized. I hid it so he'd bring me another book to read, but the tricky kid found it anyway.
The nerve!

Have you read Gods in Alabama? I really liked it.
Have you read the JD Robb In Death series? It is my favorite series evah.
I'm currently reading The Middle Place and it's very good but sad.

Kay, if I have to read Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb one more time I think my eyeballs might bleed. But then he brings it to me and starts drumming on his chest and I just melt. Do you have Kiss, Kiss? Really cute and Dimi makes kissing noises when I read it to him. My poor mom still has Green Eggs and Ham memorized from when I was a kid.
I am also in a reading rut, but I think that's because sleep dep has affected my concentration. Now that I'm sleeping more hopefully I'll be able to focus enough to do my class readings, because I don't think the struggles of Puritanism in Elizabethan England is going to be so gripping I just can't put it down.
"The meek shall inherit the earth" isn't about children. It's about deer. We're all going to get messed the fuckup by a bunch of cloned super-deer.- samfish2bcrab
Sometimes I wonder if scientists have never seen a sci-fi movie before. "Oh yes, let's create a super species of deer. NOTHING COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG." I wonder if State Farm offers a Zombie Deer Attack policy. -CaliopeSpidrman
That was my FAVORITE book when I was a kid. My dad would read it to me every night. I actually bought him a new copy this Father's Day so he would have it to read to Ethan.
Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb is his second favorite book. It's something about those monkeys and fiddles going "zum zum." I'll have to look for Kiss, Kiss.
The first one was just okay for me too, but it got much better as it went on.
I'm currently obsessed with the Sookie Stackhouse books. I know better than to start a series when I have things going on and not a lot of time for reading. I get obsessed, and instant access through the ipad makes it so much worse. I don't even have to go to the bookstore or library. I just click and there it is. I have done nothing else for a week.
I'm in a reading rut, too. Right now, I'm reading the Percy Jackson series and will probably start re-reading HP 4, 5, 6, and 7 next in preparation for the movie.
The only non-YA book I've read recently that I really enjoyed and sped through was Fly Away Home by Jennifer Weiner.
I always recommend The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova. I love it, but I seem to remember it getting mixed reviews on here.
If you like historical fiction, Jeanne Kalogridis is becoming a fave of mine. I, Mona Lisa and The Borgia Bride are two of hers I like.
Also, the Nest Book Club's September selection looks interesting:

God, I hated that book. The first 100 pages or so, I was giving it the benefit of the doubt that it was just starting slow. Three hundred pages in, it still sucked but I can't not finish a book once I've started. 650 freakin' pages later I wanted those hours of my life back.
that does look interesting, but it's not available on the Kindle
I know, I totally became obsessed with finding it when I saw the link! It's like "Cathouse" but book form!

Great books:
War by Candlelight is a collection of short stories about strife. I love the author's writing style.
At Play in the Fields of the Lord is a novel about missionaries in the Peruvian jungle, set in the 60s, I think.
Fun, quick reads:
First Comes Love, Then Comes Malaria is a memoir by a self proclaimed Jewish "princess" who falls in love with a Peace Corp recruiter and ends up joining and going on location just to impress/prove herself to him.
Josie and Jack is noir novel about a very close brother and sister who are societal outcasts.
2013 Calendars and More!
"As of page 2 this might be the most boring argument ever. It's making me long for Rape Day." - Mouse
"That chick wins at Penises, for sure." -- Fenton
Brains, please.
Alright, I stopped being a cheapskate and bought "Room". SB, I think you might want to check it out in audio. The kid that narrates it is 5, so it's...odd.
