Mixing meds

This ML thread made me wonder if people do this kind of thing regularly.

http://community.thenest.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/42618310.aspx

For the lazy,  she took Lexapro, an AllegraD and two Adderall so far today. And lamented not taking Kolonipin.

Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I took an all natural, over the counter sleep aid the other night, and then was too scared to take some Advil too. The idea of mixing all of this stuff (especially mood altering stuff) freaks me out.

ETA: Made it clicky

Re: Mixing meds

  • I don't even like to mix my Claritin and my one a day vitamin.

  • All of those are prescription, so I assume somebody is monitoring the fact that she's taking all of those?  Still, it would freak me out.  Also the fact that she says she would have taken "a bunch of klonopin."

Based on past discussions though, I think I'm a little on the pansy side of prescription drugs.

  • Just because someone has a prescirption doesn't mean they are being properly monitored or taking them as direted.

    She is a trainwreck anyway.

  • I'm disturbed anyone even knows what all those drugs are, much less has prescriptions for them, much less takes them all at once.

This is true.  And this is the one who is thinking about another kid because her son wants a little brother.

Aren't klonopin and lexapro both anti-anxiety anyway?

  • I'm clearly on the pansy bus too.

On one hand, if you are being monitored and really feel that you need all of those meds, I guess it's up to you to do what you feel is best for yourself. On the other hand, taking those things doesn't seem to  be helping her much today. And I'd think it would be much more difficult to actually deal with issues and get off meds eventually when you are just medicating yourself into the ground.

  • SB,  I think Lexapro is an every day, take regularly kind of thing, and Kolonipin is supposed to be taken in specific situations (a bad panic attack). If someone dealt with depression and anxiety attacks,  I suppose I can see them wanting access to both, but it still skeeves me out.

Yeah, but she took a handful of pills because of allergies and PMS.  I imagine she has to rob a pharmacy anytime she has an actual problem and not just a pathetic whinefest.

  • yeah, klonopin is anti-seizure or anti panic attack. I assume she takes it for the latter.

I would like to point out that these are some of the same drugs that Heath Ledger od'd on.

My mother takes Klonopin for some of her Parkinson's symptoms.  She takes a lot of meds that can be mood altering in some way, and she has really detailed instructions on when to take each, which needs to be taken with food, etc.

  • Touche, birthday girl. Touche.

Now, let's live in the fast lane for once. I have some multivitamins that were best before August 30.

  • Ah, okay.

I am on antidepressants and they have seriously changed my life, so I can't knock her for taking meds if it improves her situation.  But the way she talks about it so casually is off.

Agreed,. I don't want to come off as judging people who are proactive about their mental health, and choose to get medical help. A ton of us on CN have had issues with depression, anxiety and the like. But she makes it sound like as soon as she feels an emotion, she does her best to drown it in as many prescriptions as possible.

  • Klonopin is for anxiey attack and I seriously doubt it should be mixed with the other meds without consulting a doctor or pharmacist.

I do take pain meds (still) but I am very cautious about mixing with anything, even asprin
