tampons & virginity

My younger cousin asked me this and I was stumped.  I guess its been so long since the first time I used a tampon and the first time I had sex that I couldn't wrap my brain around this.  Is losing your virginity less painful if you frequently use tampons?  Does using tampons "stretch" you out at all or anything that would make a difference?  I would assume so... but I don't really know!

Re: tampons & virginity

  • Sometimes you can break your hymen this way, which makes having sex the first time easier.  But it doesn't stretch you out because as soon as your periods over and your not using tampons, its back to normal size.
  • Unless your first time involves a guy who's penis is the exact same size as the average tampon, I don't think that it will have any effect on the size of your vagina. The vagina is actually remarkably adaptable, meaning that it will stretch to accommodate just about any size penis (and tampons), but once you go for a while (a few days) without inserting anything, it will go back to its original size.
  • Tampons are pretty small.  They don't do much stretching of the ladyparts.

They aren't small if you're using Tampax MAGNUMs
  • For me personally tampons of any size were painful until I had sex. I tried tampons many times over the years and no matter what it was painful. Flame away, if you like.
  • Tell you cousin that you pray she'll never have sex with anyone who's peen could be compared to a tampon.
  • srgw, were you trying different sizes of Tampax brand?  Those things really do hurt.

  • Think about the general size difference...a tampon isn't going to stretch you out.

Whatever Costco sold until college and then it was across the board in college and after.

  • I used tampons faithfully, and still fought with vaginismus for over a year after the first time. So, not really, no.
  • I have used only tampons for years and sex was still pretty painful for me, I don't really think they changed anything, except maybe using tampons is a little easier now.

  • Well...I had used tampons for a few years before I lost my virginity.  Though it doesn't say much for the guy I lost it to, losing my virginity didn't hurt at all.  My DH on the other hand...he's got much more going on then my ex did.  Sex with DH, even after a couple years, can still hurt.  Tampons won't have any affect.

Also, I agree with PP...pray she never has to be with someone the size of a tampon.
