Lazy Eye
Anyone's LO have a lazy eye?
I took Natalie to her one year appointment on Tuesday and the doctor said something about her eye. She was concerned that she was starting to develop a lazy eye. Yesterday at my ILs house she was playing with the next door neighbor's dog. The neighbor is an Optometrist and looked at her eye and said it's definitely starting to become lazy. I have an appointment set up for a pediatric optometrist tomorrow.
Just wondering what all I should expect at the appointment and ways they may try to treat it. Thanks guys. Also, has anybody ever been to Reed Vision Mercy on Talmadge? Whawt do you think of them?

I had a lazy eye!! It was not picked up until I was 4 years old though, I have worn glasses ever since. Do not be surprised if Natalie has to wear glasses, that corrected my lazy eye. Sometimes they have the child wear a patch over the good eye to make the lazy eye stronger. My grandfather had to do that, but he never wore his patch, therfore went blind in the lazy eye. Of course that is a worst case so don't let that scare you. My lazy eye was probably more mild and typical.
I am not sure how they do infant/toddler eye exams. I'd imagine they'd have you hold her. Don't be surprised if they put drops in her eyes, if they dilate her, don't take her outside much after if it is sunny out. It takes me a long time to reverse out of dilation, even with reversal drops. I have to sit in complete darkness for hours. I hate it. Poor little girl. Keep us posted.
I've never heard of them. I've gone to Associated Eye Care on Laskey since I was 4 years old and love them.
I used to work for Reed Vision before I became an RN. Dr. Rhee is the Pediatric Opthamologist there...and if any of my kids ever had an eye issue, he is who I would take them too.
I worked with him again when I had to call in a consult for a patient at St. Annes, too...he really is awesome.
For lazy eye treatment, basically what they'll do is patch the good eye which forces the muscles of the bad eye to strengthen and work better. Depending on the severity, that may be all she needs.
