gross question about a mole

Has anyone ever accidentally ripped one off? My back was itching, so I scratched it without even thinking. It's not like I was clawing at it or anything, just a light surface scratch, but somehow over a shirt and a cami, I manage to scratch a mole on my back. It hurt really bad and started bleeding, so I just stuck a tissue inside my shirt.

I just went to look at it in the bathroom. Almost the entire mole is ripped off. It was just hanging by a piece? Do moles heal like regular skin? Do I just leave it alone? I'm seriously skeeved out.

How the hell did I do that with a casual scratch?

I'm also now very glad I'm wearing a black shirt.

Re: gross question about a mole

  • I had a mole under my arm that I did this to. Years of shaving and I managed to avoid it, one run-in with my fingernail and it ripped halfway off. It did heal, but was kind of dangly. I eventually had it removed.

  • I'd have it checked out by a dermatologist, just in case.

Ugg...that's what I was wondering. Seems so silly but who knows.

  • Definitely have it checked out.
I have done this and it was fine, but still.
  • I've recently been the mole patrol. I went to the dermatologist and she removed a mole the size of TX from my back, it was benign, but scary! I would probably go...since I've been, my husband, stepmom and a friend have all gone. My stepmom has a basal cell carcinoma and friend actually had a melanoma. It's been a moley few months over here. I'm sure you're fine, but always best to get checked.

  • So this thing is hurting like hell and just making me paranoid all around. I don't actually have a dermatologist. Should I find one or just go to my GP?
