How do you store your handbags?

I currently keep all of my handbags and totes in my spare bedroom closet, but now that we have a baby on the way, I need to clear out that closet and find a new home for my bags.  Problem is, my master bedroom closet is pretty full (I wish I had a walk-in!).  I guess if I found some sort of organizing unit for the floor or top shelf of the closet, that might work.  Or even under the bed storage.

Any ideas?  TIA!

Re: How do you store your handbags?

  • I use an under the bed storage container on wheels. Wheels=lot less of a pain pulling out! The top hinges in the middle of mine so it can be opened from either side of the bed easily. Being clear helps see what you are hunting for. Keeps dust out and them protected. A friend of mine hangs her purses on hooks attached to a thick fabric strip hanging on her closet door. Another uses those shoe cubicles for purses instead.

Hope one of these ideas was helpful!

  • I use these.....they're great because they hide behind the door so they're out of sight but they're nicely organized so you can find what you need and it keeps them in good shape/condition.
  • Thanks for posting this question... I have been trying to figure out how to store mine but never seem to see something that I like or that might work... but from the suggestions above I may have found something =)

  • Great ideas!  Thanks!
  • I stuff them with plastic bags so they keep their shape and I set them on the shelf in my closet.  It's going to be crowded up their soon once I get my sweaters out of storage. : )
  • I got something similar to this (sorry, can't post a clicky link b/c I have a Mac and don't know how, LOL): http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?sku=15846470&

Except mine was from The Container Store and is cuter (white with fun, bright flowers).  Similar concept, though.

The only bad thing about it is it's not really conducive to storing handbags/purses without straps...I like the Real Simple one better, but of course that came out AFTER I had already bought mine.

  • Bed, Bath, and Beyond has this two pack that hangs length wise on the back of a door.  There are like 12 looks on each size.  They can be used for hats or handbags.  I use them all for my handbags! And you can also move the hooks up and down for more room, etc.  I think it cost like $10 - totally worth it!!

  • What you could do is if you have the luxury of a storage place elsewhere you can store your spring and summer bags there, and just leave out your cold weather bags.  I put all of my dress shoes, scarves, and bags into covered bins and put them above in my closet with labels so I know which is which.
