MH is impossible.

J's birthday is at the end of this month, and I'm in the process of ordering his gifts.  I got an email today from a website with the perfect sweatshirt for him.  He's been wanting one like this forever.  I bought it, so excited!  He would never see it coming.

Then at lunch he told me all about this email he got, with the best sweatshirt ever, and described to me the exact thing I just bought.  I said "Oh, that sounds great!" while inwardly cringing because now the surprise is ruined!  He even went so far as to say that I shouldn't get it for his birthday because "I don't want to tell you what to get me, it should be a surprise".  Ugh.

So now I feel kinda disappointed.  He'll still be happy to have it, but I was so excited to finally surprise him with something really good.  Now instead of getting something new, it'll be "Oh, thanks for buying that thing I told you I was gonna buy anyway".

He does this all the time... tells me what he wants and then buys it for himself, or tells me NOT to buy it.  It's great that we're on the same page, but sometimes I wish we didn't get the same freaking emails! Stick out tongue

Cheese and RICE!  Just as I was about to hit Post, he sent me the link to the sweatshirt on the website.

Re: MH is impossible.

  • Here's the IM conversation we had after the link-sending:

    3:20 PM   Allyson
why are you sending me these links if you don't want me to buy these things?!
    3:23 PM   Jon
Because they are awesome and I want you to see them.
    I'm ridiculous!!!!

  • Ugh!  MH is the same way!  In fact, his birthday is in a few weeks, and I just ordered his gift yesterday.  Last night I told him that he's not allowed to buy anything for himself until then!

  • UGH!  I totally get it!  MH does this to me every Christmas and Birthday...every single one.  Nothing is ever a surprise and I hate it.  I can even disguise a box and he will know what it is.  It's so frustrating.  I haven't figured out a trick yet on how to trick him, if you figure one out let me know ;)

  • I would tell him... otherwise, he'll buy it for himself and he'll have 2.

Just say, "We must be soul mates because I just bought it for you at 10am" (or whatever time). Now, you'll have to guess what you are getting to go with it!

Ben does this too sometimes...and this is what I have to do. How about you give him the sweatshirt by wearing it (and only it) around the house on his birthday. If you know what I mean. Wink

  • hahah allyson mh does the same thing. especially when it comes to xmas.

he'll make his list and then buys things off his list! hahaha

his other thing is that we'll put a dollar limit on gifts. so let's say for xmas the limit is $100. he'll put things on the list that are over $100.

     wth?

     btw, i love lisa's idea! =) hahah
