Ok so I am reading Life of Pi for my bookclub and I hate to say it but I am cheating and listening on tape this month. I am driving 45 mins for work so I figured why not. Anyways... this may be the reason I am confused with this book. I have a couple of questions...
1. i think i missed the point in the beginning.... i feel like there is no plot. i am just listening about tails from his childhood - the zoo, his trip with his dad ,exploring his religion, etc. Did i miss the point in the beginning? or is the point coming?
2. Who is this random person who keeps interjecting about Pi's house and whatnot? On the tape it is a difference voice and takes about Pi as if its not him. So i am not sure...
thanks a bunch for the help!!
Re: Book question: Life of Pi
I am just happy to hear I am not the only one with this problem. I debated trying to read it again, but so far I have not tried it. I just could not get into it. I did not finish it either.
I loved Life of Pi when I read it years ago.
Are you still in Part 1? That would explain all of the reminiscing. It's a set up so you'll understand the character, it's just a lot longer than typical.
I'm not sure about the random person, I read it, I didn't listen to it, so the second narrator voice didn't stick out for me.
Sparknotes (clicky) says that the person telling the story is an author who travels from Canada to India where an old man tells him this story. He says that it will come across better if he writes the story from Pi's own voice. So the random person may be that "Canadian author".
