Anyone turn on their heat yet?

I just got home and it is 64 degrees in this house...but it is so hard to imagine turning on the heat on September 16th. Aaauuugghhh

Re: Anyone turn on their heat yet?

  • no but we've had our fireplace on a few times already.
  • No, we are holding out until at least Oct.  Sweat shirts and blankets and a little cuddling are fine with me.

  • I'm stubborn and refuse to turn it on until October first. If needed, we'd use the fireplace, maybe. I like it cooler - it gives me a reason to curl in a hoodie and blanket!
  • No way!  I am so cheap when it comes to the thermostat.  I try to not turn the heat on until November 1st.  I may have to turn it on sooner this year since I won't want Ellie getting cold.

  • Not quite.  I wish the fireplace inspector would hurry up and give us the go-ahead so I can at least turn that on!!
  • No, but our house is very well-insulated.  It has yet to drop below 73 degrees, and we've had windows open continuously.
  • My solution: layers and lots of hot tea :)
  • I am my own personal heater these days, so no need to turn it on yet.

  • No way! This is the best kind of weather for wide open windows, fresh air, no humidity and a sweater if you're cold.

We don't turn on heat until the temp in the house reaches a steady 58, then we only set the thermostat to 60 all winter long. Unless, the overnight temp dips below -15 then will turn it up to 65, but I usually get too hot.

The heat is on pretty much to keep the pipes from freezing. I love the cold!

  • I caved and turned it on today.  My house got down to 62, and Big D said his big self was cold.  Plus, we have unheated tile floors in the kitchen and bathroom, which makes everything feel colder.  But I'm 5 hours north of y'all too.  We have frost advisories this week.
  • Nope, we actually still have our windows open, we LOVE the cooler air!
  • I still sleep with the window open!!! Big Smile yes I am hardcore!

  • Nope and the windows are still open :)  Baby I's Grobegg says its only 67 in the place so that's not too cool :)
  • Nope, not yet. But man, in the morning it makes me wish we had bought the house with heated floors in the bathrooms! I will have to add that to the to-do list for the house...

haha...me too!  I had the window half open last night.  I was laying there in shorts/tank top and was HOT.  DH had on flannel pants, tshirt, socks and was under 2 blankets almost shivering.  I told him to suck it up or go in the other room.  Angry

  • Nope.  We like our house cold.  Probably won't turn it on until the end of October when it's really chilly.

I also am a paranoid person and don't like to sleep with the windows open, so if it's too warm in the house we even turn the air on at night still...

  • No way! It's only 64* in our house. The windows and doors are still open and I have been sleeping with the ceiling fan on at night. During the day I just put a blanket and a dog on me and I'm sweating!

I love having the fresh air so it will be awhile before we turn on the heat.
