Re: XP: Hudson's on the Bend
This was a pretty awesome Groupon. I'd never been there before and loved the dining experience. Food was really yummy. A little bit simplified from the full menu but still great. We ended up doing the accompanying wine flight and adding an extra appetizer to round out the meal.
However, we (particularly DH, who was a waiter in a previous life) were SO annoyed that the waiter hand-wrote in an 18% gratuity on the pre-Groupon bill. I'm sure they've been burned before by Groupon-clutching patrons but we were pretty insulted and it really did ruin the whole experience for me. I don't mind it when suggested gratuity is printed out on a receipt at 15/18/20% amounts... that is convenient and only a suggestion. Dude filled out it out himself though. And DH would have tipped way, way more than that. Maybe we shouldn't have let it get to us, but it made us feel like he/the restaurant thought that we didn't know the etiquette and we'd try to short them in some way. I think DH ended up giving him what he asked for and nothing more.
But anyway, food was good.

I'm surprised y'all had such terrible customer service from the waiter, that sucks! I bought a similar l i v i n g s o c i a l coupon for Hudson's this summer, and we loved our dinner--luckily, our waiter didn't fill in his own tip amount. If we have the same experience as you did, I'm going to encourage my fella to talk to a manager. Thanks for the heads-up!
