What are some that you want to start with DH?
As this will be our first Thanksgiving, Christmas etc as a married couple, and in our own home, I'm looking to start some traditions.
We are doing an open house/housewarming party the Saturday after Thanksgiving this year, and depending on how it goes, maybe we'll make that a tradition.
And an annual trip to the OBX
.
But I'm also looking for smaller scale traditions..
Re: S/O Traditions
Last year, we had both sides of the family over to our teeny-tiny condo to decorate christmas cookies. It was SUCH a blast, we have decided to do it every year. Don't know if our family will be able to make it this year because were 300 miles away now - but we have decided to always have a cookie party.
One of our other ones is that each valentines day we write 10 reasons why we love the other person. It's small and silly - but we have done it every single year we have been together, and I always look forward to it! Plus, it's fun to keep them all and see how our relationship has changed over time...
I LOVE traditions...
Unfortunately our condo is tiny & not much seating, so having a bunch of people over just isn't practical - mainly because it stresses me out too much.
But, last year we put up our (fake) tree on Dec. 1 and decorated it & the whole house. I had so much fun doing that and DH promised that since I agreed to get a fake tree we can always put it up on Dec. 1! That makes me ridiculously excited, lol.
Another thing we did last year was we went to Target together to do the shopping for our Christmas stockings. In DH's family it's always been a tradition that the stockings are generally stuffed with lots of joke-y & fun things. In my family the stockings were always where the best stuff was found, so we agreed that our stockings will be 90% funny but have one real/nice gift in them also. I thought it was really fun doing that together. We split up and tried to avoid each other, checked out separately, so the gifts were still surprises.
since we have dated, every year jake and i bake at least 13 types of cookies and about 7 dozen of each of them. then we go around town and hand them out to our friends. since living in LA it took a million years, last year we made people come to us and had a wine party.
then about 2 years ago, i wanted a real tree since it was our first married christmas. so, the past two years we have WALKED to the tree lot, picked it out and then jake carries it home with him. each year we name our trees as well.
i really look forward to this ever year.
