Random rave

I remember ages ago (literally probably over a year ago) there was a thread on here about Kindles and I don't know if it's been discussed since, but I thought I'd share that I got one in July and I LOVE it!

It is better than I ever expected! The commercials are no exaggeration, it reads wonderfully in bright sunlight. It reads great in any light, for that matter, and it never feels like you're reading a screen.

I swear I'm not exaggerating when I say that I read mine almost every day (I've finished 3 books, and I'm in the middle of another 3 right now), and I have only ever charged it twice.

  • Wow, that sounds great. Glad you're so happy with it!  How much does it cost to download books, and do you get to keep them?
I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • I'm so torn on these things. I LOVE LOVE LOVE turning the pages of a book. But I feel like I'd read so much more with a kindle and I love reading so much!
  • The books range from free (which includes most classics, like Pride and Prejudice etc) to about $12 for a new release (I think I paid $10.99 for The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest, which is still only available in hardcover elsewhere). Some books are bizarre prices (I think I bought one for $0.39), but things like Dean Koontz are $4-5.

My MIL works at a library, and they do e-lending to the Kindle! I'm not positive how it works, and I haven't checked if it's available in my town, but she said most libraries are doing it now.

You can keep the books foreve. And if the memory on the Kindle fills up, you can archive your books online on your amazon.com account, so that you can delete them off the Kindle, but re-download them for free any time.

I don't miss reading a book, but my cousin bought a kindle after she played with mine, and she says sometimes she misses having an actual book. I have a hard cover on it so it opens and I hold it like a book, but obviously there are no pages to flip haha

I went back and forth for over a year on whether or not to get one, that's why I'm especially excited that I love it as much as I do!

  • I keep going back and forth between the Kindle and the Nook.  I thought you could only get library books on the Nook, not that my library actually has anything decent to read!

I think it depends on the town and library. My friend loved my kindle, and ended up getting a Nook just because it made more sense for her, but they're pretty much the same from what I can tell. I would definitely do a lot of research on the two and the differences before you decide.
