It's still a little ooky since it's been less than 24 hours since it was done, but I love it!

Re: xp: who wants to see my tattoo? :)

  • it's downright gorgeus!  wait, why can't i spell gorgeos all of the sudden?  georgious?

ack!  gorgeous!!  there we go, i think that's it.

they're so pretty that although i've never wanted a tattoo because i'm don't like to think how they will look when i'm 85 and my skin is sagging half-way to the floor, now.... i feel like considering one!

  • Love it!  I've been wanting to get a tattoo in memory of my friend, but I'm still doing the research on places/artist/cleanliness etc.  I intend almost exactly where you did yours, but on my left wrist.  I've heard it will be pretty painful in that area.  How bad was it, honestly?

LOL that's why I picked my wrist...the only other place I could think of that wouldn't get too saggy was my ankle, but I've heard that really hurts because it goes close over the bone. Stick out tongue

  • It's really cute Lisa. Good choice!
  • Oh, it came out great! Glad you love it! Did it hurt?

Honestly? It hurt. I think anyone who says it didn't is lying or trying to be tough. You're getting stabbed and scraped repeatedly with a tiny needle - it's not going to feel good. But it certainly wasn't agonizing - I think my broken hand hurt more.

The outline hurt WAY more than the fill - it feels like someone is cutting you with a scalpel. The fill feels more like sharp scratching (don't get me wrong - it still hurts, but the outline was way worse).

The skin is pretty sensitive there, but I've heard it hurts the most over bone - like on your ankle bone, shin or elbow and after getting it done I can see how that would be true. I think the most painful spot on the wrist was when he went over a tendon that's pretty close to the surface, but that was over pretty quick.

I'm actually glad I got it done somewhere that I could see it, because then even when it was painful I could watch the progress and think to myself, "Yeah, this hurts, but he's only got <that> much more to go." And the whole thing only took an hour, so it was over fairly quickly. Now it just feels like a bad scrape with a scab over it (which is basically what it is lol).

Oh and as far as picking a place, definitely do your research! I googled "best tattoo studio in Sydney" and then spent hours and hours reading forums to get opinions. The place I ended up going was one of the three most recommended and highly rated studios by people who have had multiple tattoos done (and they've won numerous industry awards, etc.). I only picked it over the other two because in general, their artists' styles were more in line with my aesthetic. It was expensive, probably double the cost of what it would have been somewhere else, but it was worth every penny - not really something you want to bargain shop on, kwim? Stick out tongue

It's all true - the outline hurts way more than the fill.  And the closer you are to the bone, the more it hurts.  I have one on my back, my neck, my ankle and my foot and the foot hurt the WORST followed by the ankle.  I'd never in a gaGILLION years get another tattoo on my foot.  In comparison, all the others were a piece of cake.  When I got the one on my ankle my girlfriend got one too (it was her first, my second) and her comparison was to a hot knife cutting through her skin.  Once you know what to expect it's not that bad - surprisingly the neck was the easiest for me - but it's true, it still hurts.

  • Likey, likey. Room for the flock to spread up to the elbow over the decade...

  • I love it!  I think it looks very "sweet".
  • Love it!

And if you are getting another one done in Sydney and need a rec, lemme know - one of my BFs lives there and has a ton of ink.  I was with him in Vegas when he got one there too.

  • wow great tatoo beautiful!
  • I love what you ended up with! You can definitely tell that they're birds. Room for a few more, maybe? ;)
