odd/random question

How long do you keep your hairbrush?

And this has nothing to do with the Nestie awards stupidest question.  I actually thought about this this morning while I was drying my hair.  I looked at my hairbrush that is kinda looking crappy, and was like wow I've only had this a few years, I thought it should last longer.  But then I thought... maybe I'm suppose to change my hairbrush more often.

Re: odd/random question

  • I know this sounds funny but I clean mine every few months and let it sit in water with dandruff shampoo to get all of the oils off of it and it seems good as new.
  • I clean the hair out every few days, and occasionally throw it in a tub of soapy water (with dawn in it) just to get some of the hair oils out of it. I've probably had my current brush 5 years or so.
  • I clean the hair out of it everyday.  Then, every couple days, I run it under steaming hot water to clean it off.

I do this as well.  But I think after seeing the current state, I'm going to start cleaning it every few weeks in soap and water to see if that helps.

I also think this one looks worse than previous ones because my last few have been black so they didn't seem to show the buildup as bad as one that is lighter in color.

  • Wow I don't even think I want to answer this after reading all of your responses. You might as well call me "Pig-pen" from Peanuts.

  • I usually lose it after a couple years or it falls in the toilet.

I pull the hair out of it every few days.

  • Nick and I share one so I change it every couple months or so because he gets grossed out by the buildup. If it weren't for him saying "that's disgusting", I probably would do it maybe every couple years! I do try to clean the hair out of it at least once a week. I'm losing hair like nobody's business though.?

  • I seriously think I have had my brush for 10 years. Once I thought I lost it and cried. I try to clean it like once a year but I know I should do it more.

I think it matters what material your brush is. Mine is hard plastic and has lots of space between the bristles. I think if it was one of the the boar bristle ones that are really compact, or one that has the bristles on a flexible pad, it would be different.
