Soup shop!

Uncle Cheetah's opens tomorrow! DH and I might go. He has the day off to celebrate our anniversary, and DS is with the ILs. :) Free to wait in line... LOL!

Re: Soup shop!

  • You guys are so romantic...haha.

We've been trying to schedule a dinner date with Cory for weeks now...every week we set a date and then he postpones it to the next week. Needless to say, he's been working REALLY hard to make sure the soup shop is ready. I hope it all goes smoothly!

  • I saw this was opening - what happened to the Eel?  It didn't seem like they gave it very long - I wonder if it was doing that badly?

Hopefully the soup shop is more successful!  We'll definitely try to check it out soon.  Let us know what you think and happy anniversary!

  • Thanks! 7 years today. :)

Beth knows more about the inside track re: Eel, but from what I understand it had opened too soon and had too many choices; the owner's striving for perfection ended up costing too much (all that fresh fish, so many options, gluten free/non GF...) that it wasn't worth keeping open.

I LOVE the soups at the Cheetah, so I have high hopes for this place! Never had a soup I didn't like at the first place. Today is a soup-y kind of day. :)

  • You mind picking up a take out order and dropping it off at my house on the way home. Big Smile

Brian doesn't feel good today, so I might go pick up some soup for dinner, even it is at Panera bread.  Once the soup shop is open for a while and gets into the groove, that will be a good option. I just won't want to wait with the munchkins.

That's pretty much the gist of it. Basically Cory opened the Eel way too early due to outside pressure and then spent the whole time they were in business trying to play catch-up/appease the masses who weren't happy because the food wasn't good because the staff didn't have enough time to perfect - or even taste test - the food they were serving in the first place. We were there on the first day it was open with Cory's girlfriend and that was the first time she had tasted or even seen anything on the menu...just for example.

Also, he was wavering on what sort of concept to do in the first place - a noodle place or a soup place. He kind of flipped a coin and went with noodles, and then about a month later Erb Thai announced that they were coming to the neighborhood. Cory knew they'd do a better job with noodles anyway and has said that if he knew they were coming back before the Eel opened, he would have done a soup place for sure.
