Blade and or/ CL?

Ok So i'm wondering is it worth the $30.00 to place an ad in the Blade for a garage sale?  What is your experience, do you think CL is advertisement enough and signage, or do you sugguest to pay the money for the blade?

Re: Blade and or/ CL?

  • Honestly I did both.  I had a TON of people show up but I think it was the way I "marketed" our sale vs what was at our sale.

I know that some people only use the blade and some look in both places.

Do you live in an easily accessible area/neighborhood?

I had A LOT of collectors come to the sale.  I think they found me on craigslist.  Others I heard them say things I only put in the Blade ad.

I'm gonna say it was 60/40 tipped to the blade but I don't know for sure.

All I do know is if you say it starts at 8 be ready by 6:30.  Holy crap!

  • We got a pretty good amount of people just from CL and signs around the neighborhood.
  • I used to only advertise in the Blah and would get a lot of people.  My last sale I advertised in only CL and we got the same amount, if not more.  Everyone checks CL these days.  I listed my ad under Garage Sales and Baby Stuff.  Since I had a combo of both types of items.

I will only advertise in CL from now on.  It is free and I got just as many people as I did from the Blah advertisement.  So, I don't think it is worth the $30.

Same here. When I go to garage sales 90% of the time is because I passed a sign on the way to the store. I do check CL and a local paper here in Millbury but I never look in the Blade for a garage sale and I get the paper every day.

  • We advertised in the blade when we had a block sale and everyone pitched in like 3 bucks.  We had awesome turnout.

If I was just doing it myself, I wouldn't pay the $30.00 and would just throw it on CL.  But that's cause I'm a cheap-ass.
