Gray Hair...

I am going to see one of my long time friends.  She sent me a warning she needs her hair done to cover the gray.  She is 5 months older than me and I was SHOCKED.  How does she have gray hair already?

Do you have gray hair?  Do you dye your hair to cover the gray?

I am hoping I take after my grandma who didn't get gray until her 60's. My parents didn't get any gray hair until they reached their late 40's.

Yes, I am making a big deal over gray hair because it's a big deal to me. lol

Re: Gray Hair...

  • How fast you gray is hereditary. I think I may have a hair or two and I'm only 32 but I have a friend who started graying in her 20s.
  • i dont have any, my mom has black hair she started graying in her 40's i think, my dad it feels like he didn't start to gray until late 40's.. my brother is getting grey at  36 and my sister doesn't have even a touch of gray at 38
  • I have maybe a dozen or so grays.  My mom was very gray by my age, and my younger brother had a lot of grays before he started balding (he got the double whammy in the genetic lottery - ouch!).  I don't have enough at this point to want to take on coloring my hair yet though.

  • I don't have any grays yet. My mom didn't gray until her late 30's and my did didn't gray until his 40s. I'm not too worried. My family ages well, until about their late 60's then the really deep wrinkles set in. That's what I'm worried about!!
  • I found my first gray hair at 15 and I am now 31 and almost completely gray.  If I had to guess I would say probably 80-90% gray. I dye my hair probably every 6-8 weeks.
  • I have a few greys and I do highlight my hair I hear its from a lot of stress that can cause grey hair! I'm only 26 and sports a few strains!
  • I've had a few greys for as long as I can remember. Some days I can't even find them. I don't think I remember my mom going grey any earlier then mid 40s maybe? My sister is 34 and she's still doing ok so I think I'm clear for awhile. ;-)

  • I've had grays since I was 13. My grandmother was completely white at 18. My mom in her early 30's. I used to just have the same ones but in the past year they have gotten progressively worse. I'm positive it's stress related. I'm still mostly brown but I won't make it far into my 30's. I'll be spending money on dye and highlights until I'm too incoherent to care.
  • You make me laugh!!  Yep I have a bit of gray also.  I like to refer to them as my silvers. lol.  I do color them but I'm in the right business for that.  It is heredity that depends on when you start to go silver.  It sounds like you have good genes.  I got more gray after being pg too.

  • I noticed gray hairs on my mom when she was around 40.  (I remember noticing at her 40th birthday party although I didn't say anything to her.)  And my dad, he went bald so who knows when he turned gray.  He says instead of getting gray hairs, they fell out.  (He does have some on the back and sides and it's gray now but again I never noticed when that happened.)

I highlight my hair and haven't noticed any grays, yet!

  • I am a dark dark brunette and in the last few years I have noticed more and more. At first I tried to go the highlighting route, but then I got all parinoid if some of the strands got too blond, then they looks like grays, so I just went back to my natural and just do my roots. My mom was totally gray by 43, my dad died at 44 and just had slight gray at his temples. His beard was totally gray though. My older brother  is 29 and has lighter hair than mine, and you can see the single strands of grey in his so he keeps it cut pretty short. Of course my little brother was the one blessed with the nice blond hair that will never show grays. Little punk. Though I do have the best hair in my family by far. I can thank my grandfather for that one.
