Cleaning ceiling fan blades: how often?

I was looking at our bedroom ceiling fan this week and noticed how dusty they had become. We clean every week and keep a pretty clean home (no kids), but I always tend to forget about the fans.

How often do you clean your blades?

I have a monthly cleaning list and am thinking of including this task in it (unless it gets dustier sooner and may need to do it every other week?)

What other things do you do on a non-weekly basis when it comes to cleaning?

Re: Cleaning ceiling fan blades: how often?

  • Hmm not sure I can totally answer your question, but I only remember to do it when I notice that they are dusty Stick out tongue

Id say maybe every other week you could give them a dusting?

  • I hit mine probably twice a season. But  use our fans a lot so they don't get super dusty.
  • We probably clean ours about 3-4 times a year.  Our ceiling fans are on all year round for the most part so I don't think it allows for too much dust to collect on them.
  • I'd say to clean em when you notice the dust. Once a month sounds good too.

Other things I do on a non-weekly basis would be; cleaning the oven once a year or twice if its nasty. cleaning behind the appliances (oven, washer, dryer, fridge) once a year (when i get my dh to help me. :) also cleaning my windows once a year. dh is in charge of the gutters & yard work so exterior cleanig is his dept.

  • I do mine monthly, but I'm a little on the high strung side in the cleaning department.

Every month the ceiling fans get done, the tile floors get hand scrubbed, the fridge and freezer get totally cleaned out, the cupboards get re-organized and the furniture gets moved to vacuum/I use all the vacuum tools to get in the corners etc.

The fan thing really depends on how fast it gets dusty. Our old place it wasn't even needing it badly after a month, this one it definitely does. Something to do with the 2 dogs we have now probably! :) happy cleaning!
