Realistically, how conceivable is it for McCain to plan for "40-50 plants immediately"? My understanding is that the cost to build is in the 10B range each, and that financing is nearly impossible to come by. This would mean that the feds would have to finance it, and where the H. E. double hockey sticks would THAT money come from?
I'm actually for nuclear power when possible - both financially and environmentally - but how in the world do we get it up and running? God knows it aint free!

The financing is impossible to come by because the regulations (and the processing/storage issues) have been impossible to overcome. ?If this country was open to allowing nuclear plants to be built under reasonable restrictions, the funding would appear.
We'd have a lot of issues with finding the brain trust to build and run these plants--our last nuclear plant opened in the 80s, so we're not exactly on the cutting edge of this stuff.?
