cleaning metal baking sheets

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remove sticky, baked on grease from baking/cookie sheets? I've tried soaking in dish soap and it's not working. I'm wondering if I should just give up and purchase new ones.

Re: cleaning metal baking sheets

  • i have stains on some of my muffin pans but not my cookie sheets. if it wont come off after much soaking and some hard scrubbing with an sos pad then i just nevermind it. its not going to come off on the food in the future, so no worries.
  • You may want to try soaking them in a vinegar/water solution.  When we moved into our apt., the knobs on the stove had caked-on grease (they were so gross!).  I took them off and let them soak in the solution for a couple of hours and then the grease wiped right off.  It worked when 409 & other cleaners didn't!

  • If it bothers you, I vote for buying new ones...they really aren't expensive. I have two sets pretty much...my used, broke in, trusty ol' ones....and there is my "bringing a dish an event" one. I know it's not metal, but I LOVE my PC stones...and they are supposed to have baked on grease ;)

  • If you don't mind chemicals, Dawn Power Dissolver works wonders for the gummy stuff on metal bakeware. It reeks, tho.
