I am moving up there for a job and don't know the area all that well. Any areas where you wouldn't recommend living in? Know of any nice apartment buildings? Also, how hard do you think it will be for my husband to find a job? Are there any places that you know are hiring? Any other information you think I should know....
Thanks!
Re: Anyone live in St Cloud?
I grew up in the area but probably don't have the most relevant or timely information. I think there are 2 or 3 girls here who live there now, so hopefully they can chime in!
Boy/girl twins born at 37w1d and 37w2d
I went to school outside of St. Cloud, so I can comment a little bit. If you're apartment looking, I would definitely consider the Waite Park area - it's on the West side of St. Cloud and is really more of an apartment area - great buildings, lots of amenities, close to the mall, Target, etc.
If you're looking to buy a home, I would consider some of the smaller towns. St. Joseph (where I went to school) is less than 5 miles away and it's awesome.
Good luck!
I grew up in Sauk Rapids and then went to SCSU for all of college, so I know the area well.
As far as apartments go- I'd look in nearby suburbs (everything is within 10-15 min regardless of where you are!). Sauk Rapids, Waite Park and Sartell are definite recommendations. There are some really nice apartments right off HWY 15 in Sartell (Keeneland Village), and I've also heard good things about Heritage Place. You'll find a lot of NICE apartments in Sartell. Sauk Rapids is a bit more affordable, not as nice. Waite Park has quite a few nice ones as well. HTH!
ETA: What is your H looking into job wise?
I've lived in St. Cloud for the past three years. How much would you like to spend on an Apt? I lived in Pointe West - Nice apartment, spendy but it has a outdoor pool, fitness room, community room, the management was poor but it has gotten new management. Pine Point - Cheap apartment but by far my favorite, not the best neighborhood but close to Hwy 10, it had a lot of room in the apt for what you pay, wasn't super fancy and the building didn't offer any extra amenities. And Brookwood Estates - Neighborhood was fine but that was by far my least favorite apartment. I personally wouldn't recommend living in Waite Park. It is close to shopping and restaurants and things but I don't think its the nicest town. Sauk Rapids is a small town and I think it would be an okay place to live but then you get further away from shopping and other things (not terribly far but still a little drive). Sartell is the nicest town to live in but probably the most expensive. My brother lived in Heritage Park and it was amazing. It is close to the heart of town and really really nice. An outdoor pool and an indoor pool, hot tub, fitness room, community rooms. Otherwise look for a house to rent on Craigslist. That is where we found the one we are living in now and we love it!
What kind of jobs is your husband looking for?
Sorry I'm late in responding to this. I live in Sauk Rapids. I love the area. We live off of Highway 10 and Golden Spike Road. It's a more newly developed area with some apartments nearby as well. Sartell is also nice. If you want to be in St. Cloud I would agree with Heritage Place apartment complex. That place is pretty nice. (I live in a house so I'm not an expert on apartment complexes but have friends who do).
I would think finding a job here is just as easy/hard as any other place. I commute to Maple Grove for my job but my husband works right in St. Cloud. It all depends on the field he works in.
Thanks everyone. I think we found an apartment, but we're going back tomorrow to look a few more just to be safe. I need an apartment that takes a dog and a cat-so that makes things alittle more difficult.
My husband is currently a technical service supervisor at a company that deals with spa beds, tanning beds, and medical devices. He has a lot of customer service experience. He doesn't really care that much, he just wants out of his current job (not a good working environment). If you have any ideas, please let me know.
