This lady at Publix

made me sick long story short but I went friday night to get DH and Isubs for dinner and I asked them to toast mine and I explained I had to get it warmed b/c I couldn't  have cold sandwich meat. I explained i was pg and the girl making my sub said she was pg too. I went back today to get some stuff and I walked outside to my car same lady was smoking a cig with a Mr. PiP I looked at her and roled my eyes.

Re: This lady at Publix

  • So the smoking made you sick?
  • The lady was pregnant while smoking I feel bad for her baby.
  • How awful!  That makes me sick too.  I hope her baby turns out to be ok.

  • Oh, ok!  Sorry, I didn't understand that from what you said.

    Yeah, the poor baby!

My MIL told me that she smoked with all 3 of her kids, on purpose.  I mean, she was a smoker anyways, but the doctors actually told her it was better to continue smoking because it kept the birth weight down and would make labor easier.  ::shaking my head::

I'm sorry....what?! One of my ex's cousins smoked during her pregnancy because the doctor told her it would cause less stress for the baby than quitting would....

Seriously, sometimes I wonder how kids in our generation survived with all the medical advice our parents were given haha

this can be true... so i try not to judge too quickly... you can taper your smoking off, but sometimes quitting cold turkey could cause serious issues for the baby.. that's why it's important to try and stop smoking before you TTC.. of course, i'm sure a lot of people get pg without actually "trying"... sigh.

  • I hate to see that...it is just so selfish to me.  The stress of quitting (even for a heavy smoker) lasts a week tops until the nicotene works its way out of ones system.

To continue to smoke is risking the health of your baby for your own selfish pleasure.

DHs cousin smoked while pregnant with both of hers, and even while carrying the first one around while pregnant with the second.  Even if it was dangerous for her to quit, exposing her 1st born to second hand smoke is mega stupid!

Yeah, all three of the kids were about 5 pounds when they were born.  Which, again, the doctor told MIL was good.

I hadn't heard about it being stressful for the baby if you quit after becoming pregnant.  But I don't really know any smokers who got pregnant while still smoking.

  • I have to say, It never ceases to amaze me how selfish some pregnant woman are and I've discovered that on the Bump. One chick had the nerve to say she was using a regular bumper, despite knowing the SIDS risk, "because it was cute and everyone I know has done it and haven't had a baby die so it must not be dangerous." Ummm...what? It's one thing if you want to read the studies and come to your own conclusion that you don't think the increased risk poses a problem (which I still think is stupid), but to say you're doing it because you haven't known anyone whose baby died of SIDS and your parents did it and you are just fine, blows me away. For that particular chick, I responded and said "So I guess you're not going to use a carseat since I'm sure your parents didn't have carseats when they were growing up and they seem fine...

I could go on and on about the stupidity I've seen over there.

I quit cold turkey and it was easy b/c I thought about that beautiful baby I was caring!  no Judging here I just felt bad thinking of her baby. I have to say I was not a bad smoker just when drinking or stressed out but other then that I never touch a cig and I will never pick one up again
