Laundry Stains

DH is a bricklayer and his work clothes come home with mortar, cement, and tar on them constantly. No matter what I use or soak them in I can't get them clean. I soak them, use vinegar in the wash, tried oxyclean, but nothing seems to work. Any suggestions?

Re: Laundry Stains

  • One that I use a lot is... powdered dishwasher soap and powdered clorox 2 equal parts of each... 1c of each for a washer full. Run hot water in the washer to disolve the powders then add your clothes... let aggitate for a few min (5) then let soak for a while (30) repeat a few times and finnish cycle. Wash clothes again with regular detergant.

But note... I have never got tar out of my husbands clothes!

    Good luck!

  • When nothing else works as a last ditch effort I have has some success with regular blue Dawn dish detergent.  Just put maybe 1/8 of a cup or so, soak, wash, then do an extra rinse.

  • Nothing gets mortar out. Just send him to work in clothes that are already stained.

We put in a tile floor in our kitchen and we had some towels that we cleaned up the mortar and grout with. Those towels ended up in the trash.
