Need advice from HR professionals

I am currently the Director of Operations for an early childhood school in my area. I am in charge of employee screening, interviewing, hiring, etc. as well as many other HR-related aspects such as updating the employee handbook, amending employee policies and procedures, etc. My Bachelor's degree is in Family Science, but I am really looking into getting into the HR field. I am seriously considering enrolling in an MBA program and getting a concentration in HR. Just wondering if anyone has any other suggestions on how to break into the field. I obviously have a lot of experience doing HR types of things as I have been in my current position for 5+ years, but I know that isn't going to be enough to break out of early childhood ed and into a business/ corporate environment. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Re: Need advice from HR professionals

  • i say find a true hr role either as a generalist or specialist...most if not all managers handle employee selection and the initial steps in employee relation stuff....obtain degree if it required for positions you want....you may want to get certification when you qualify it's cheaper...

the weight of either depends on the co's you are interested in. good luck

  • I think you might really enjoy the MBA with a concentration in HR. I completed my MBA in a similar field (business Management with several HR electives) and I found it to be a very good learning experience- extremely interesting- and opened a lot of doors professionally. Good luck!
