Good Blog Post about Baby Gear
Re: Good Blog Post about Baby Gear
I just read that too. I've heard similar things from my friends with little ones: you won't need half of what you get, there's always things you'll want to pick up after the baby comes home, find out what works for you and return/donate what doesn't.
I'm curious though, do the mommies on the board agree? Obviously we're a long ways from this, but I think Drew will go nuts in a place like Babies R Us and scan everything in sight. Any feedback I can get now will be very helpful in reigning him in. He trusts your opinions as much as I do.
Brie's Blog 10.11.08 The Top Shelf Bookshelf
my read shelf:
Most of the things in the blog are very good to follow. My only thing is with the bottles, Xander didn't take to bfing and my milk never fully came in, so that was no good for us. Also I went with a cheapo pump and told Andrew the second time (if there is one) around I will rent one from the hospital.
My parents were super generous with the baby gear for us, and I did get a lot of hand me downs from my sister. My parents bought us our nursery furniture, and stroller travel system, the bedding, a ton of clothes and lots more. I was given a diaper cake with about 200 diapers in it. My parents would buy formula and diapers all the time while I was out of work. Wasn't needed but much appreciated by us. We also got new outfits from them every other week. Read this as my mom spoils her grandkids all the time.
The hand me downs from my sister were the exersaucer, madela bottles, neutral clothes, bimbo chair, and some other stuff. my sister also went nuts with buying boy clothes since she has a girl. Also my sister's ILs bought us our glider (via generous check).
The ILs gave us our cradle. I actually already told Andrew if we have a second we will not use the cradle at all. I think it is the reason why Xander is a bad sleeper, it moved to much and woke him up all the time.
We were gifted the pack--play, so the only large item I bought was the swing (which I had a $75 gc to put towards). I do think everyone needs a swing, Xander slept in it many nights because it was the only way.
Sorry this is so super long.

She does have some good points. But it's up to your individual situation to decide where to cut corners. If I bought a single pump, I'd be miserable pumping at work (and it would hurt my supply). Also, there are baby items that aren't right at one age, but then baby grows to like it -- his carseat is a great example, but he was also that way with his swing and bouncy chair. I'm very glad we have his swing and bouncy chair; but we wouldn't have gotten them based on an initial test drive b/c he didn't like them at first.
Pick up a copy of Baby Bargains and you'll be good to go
(Just don't listen to them about cloth diapers - they don't know what they're talking about)
Ditto Rebecca. I had a lot more to say about each section but can't remember everything and Rebecca pretty much summed up my thoughts.
What do you mean re: cloth diapers?
I'll also say sometimes these two make me a little sick with all their saving...maybe its jealousy.
