I think my judgement might be a tad out of touch so I appreciate your input to my lame questions, I just need some perspective.

I'm surprised at how low the 'short' threshold is for these responses. If most people only consider < 5'3" to be short at all, then why do people treat me like I'm freakishly short?

I am proudly 5'4.
I don't consider women to be short enough to comment on their shortness until they are under 5'0. This is probably because I'm damn tired of people calling me short.
I consider women over 5'8 to be tall.
