XP: Thoughts & Prayers needed for Alex & his family
Over the years I've posted updates and fundraisers for my sister-in-law's brother Alex. He was diagnosed with an extremely rare heart cancer in 2001 and was told to go home and die. We found a surgeon in Houston that would do an experimental surgery since he was one of only 6 or so people in the world to have been diagnosed with that cancer. With 2 of those surgeries, years of radiation and chemo, several re-occurrences and scares and due to his amazingly good health he has lived almost 10 years with this rare cancer. His wife was pregnant with their 2nd child at the time of diagnosis and they are now 9 & 12 years old. On Thursday Alex received word that his cancer has spread to his ribs and the spots on his liver have grown even after the latest rounds of treatment. He originally said he was done fighting and has been in a lot of pain lately. His doctor asked him to sleep on it because right now the only methods left for him to try are non-conventional and painful. He has decided for his children's sake to give it a try and will start it next week. They have given him 2-6 months. My sister-in-law emailed a doctor who has had success with this new drug when it was in trial phase so we will see what his thoughts are. Please keep him and the family in your prayers. This has been an amazingly emotional journey and of course added financial strain to him and his family as well. I always like to share the amazing slide show Lindsey with Life in Motion did:
