I feel anxious.

As most of you know, I'm in college p/t.  I work f/t and then go to school at nights.  I've been doing this for 4 years now, so nothing new.  There have been very few semesters where I felt like I was drowning.  This is one of them.  I'm taking two classes (one of which hasn't even started yet!) this semester and I don't get this anxious too often.  My law class was last night and that teacher is NOT helping my anxiety level.  She keeps making it a point to say that her "tests are really, really hard so be prepared".  It freaks me out to hear that b/c I'm working soooo hard to put myself through school.  My other class (which starts tomorrow night) is already just as bad w/ the amount of reading and paper writing I have ahead of me.  Grrrr!  I feel like I'm setting myself up for failure.  Well, technically I feel like that blame could be placed on my adviser; I let her pick my classes this semester (which I don't generally do) and I wish I wouldn't have.  Harumph.  I just needed to get that off my chest.  I was hoping it would make me feel a little bit better saying it "out loud" but it didn't.  Sigh.

  • Feel Your.Pain.

I'm in a similar position. Work FT/School PT. The classes I wanted to take this semester weren't being offered until the spring, so I thought it would be a good time to knock out electives. I overloaded my schedule thinking they were only electives and shouldn't be a problem. Let me just tell you my Humanities course syllabus makes me cry every single time I look at it.

So I'll just send a ((hug)) and a bit of determination your way and tell you my favorite bit of advice from my Grandmother:

"Sometimes you have to go through, to get to."

Simple but effective even in the worst of times.  ; ) Good luck!

Thank you for sharing this.  Sometimes I feel like I'm the only person dealing w/ everything I do and its nice to know that I'm not.  I generally try to stay pretty optimistic, but as you well know I'm sure, its sometimes difficult when you can't understand a thing you're doing (which is where both of these classes have me this semester).

  • I understand too...I'm in the same situation. This is my last semester of finance classes and I'm taking 4 of them along with working 35 hours a week. It is a bit overwhelming sometimes (like when I have a tax planning accounting exam)

I think professors try to scare you by saying how hard the class will be in order to get the slackers to work hard. If you're anything like me, it ends up being just like every other class and completely possible.

Oh, and get not knowing anything...I have a class this semester that leaves me feeling the same way. It scares the crap out of me!!!!!

It'll be over at some point...You WILL get through it!

  • Means to an end, my friend. Just remember that. :) And you are far from alone. Without anxiety meds, I probably wouldn't have my masters.

Sounds like your teacher's dealt with too many slackers in her time. Just tell yourself that you'll be fine, she's not talking about you, because you will be prepared. Or learn to do the mental version of "lalalala -can't-hear-you" when she starts talking like that - whatever works!

You give me tons of hope.  Honestly.  I know its rough, but hearing your encouraging words really do help me.  Smile
