What makeup do you use?

I am on a search for a new makeup line since Prescriptives is no longer in business and I can't find my colors online. I would like to find something that is good for sensitive skin, oil free, non comedogenic....you get the idea

I have heard good things about Rae Cosmetics and Bare Minerals. I currently use MAC foundation, concealer and powder. What do you use?

Re: What makeup do you use?

  • I have tried several different brands, and like Everyday Minerals, Jane Iredale, and MAC.
  • I have some Prescriptives stashed away that I stocked up on.  I also use Everyday Minerals but I think I want to try Laura Mercier's mineral makeup since it seems to be a much higher quality.

Makeup counters are so daunting to me.  I wish they would put all foundations, skin care, lip treatments, colors all in their own areas so you could look at all the different brands at the same time depending on what you're looking for.

  • For foundation I currently use MAC, I have used Trish McEvoy and that was great a little bit more spendy than MAC. I suggest you go a Dept store or Sephora and get 10 day samples of each brand and try to see what you like best. For color products I have Nars, Aveda, Trish McEvoy, MAC and Dior.

  • I used Stila Tinted Moisturizer for a long time and liked it just fine.  When my last package ran out I decided to try something different just for fun and got Tarte Smooth Operator, and I like it a lot too.  I think I'm liking the Tarte just a little bit better.  It seems to control shine longer.

BTW, I hadn't heard that Prescriptives went out of business, so I went to their website to see what it said and I found this.   Are any of the products you'd been using on this list?

  • That is awesome! I had no idea they were doing this. Last time I checked they didn't have my shades on their web site, but now they do. You're a lifesaver! Thanks for all of the recommendations. I will definitely check them out.

  • I've been using Clinique, and eh.  Then I found Dior Airflash...OMG!  This stuff is amazing, it's like airbrush makeup.  Spray it on, use a powder brush to set it and bam, done!  I don't even need concealer or powder anymore.  I very oily skin and it stays on all day.  It's $60, but when you think no concealer or powder not bad.  They have several colors.  I've noticed since I've been using it I haven't had any breakouts.  My skin has been clear for weeks.

  • I don't use a ton of make up, but I really like Stila products.  I have foundation and shadows that I really love.  My favorite mascara is Benefit BadGal lash.  Everything else I use is just stuff from Target or the drugstore.
  • I go to Sephora and have some fun there to choose.. but right now I'm using:

    - Clinique's city block spf 40 for base
    - Bare Minerals for face powder, some eyes (their waterproof eye shadow stuff is AWESOME), and lip color
    - Tarte and Fresh for things like eye color, blush
    - Stila for mascara

I'd go with any of the above for the fun stuff.  Its really hard to go wrong with any of 'em.

  • I use Clinique's Perfectly Real foundation.  It's the lightest one they have and still has great coverage.  I will admit I'm not very adventurous in the foundation dept, though.  They have awesome freebies! lol
  • I use MAC for my foundation and concealer, love it!  Smashbox for my primer, eye liner, and bronzer, NARS for blush and eyeshadows.  I got a Dior mascara as a gift last Christmas and love it, but probably wouldn't spend the money for myself ($25 for mascara?!? uh negative).  I really only like Smashbox for their primer.  Everything else of theirs is just OK.

  • I am gluten free, have rosacea and some acne!  I use Bare Minerals almost exclusively but might start using more Laura Mercier.  For my wedding I used a lot of the "HD" products from a Sephora "makeover" plus some MAC lip stain I LOVE.  (It's a bit of a pain for daily use but is great for longer events where you actually care, hehe.)

Great rec, thanks!  I've been using DiorSkin and I like it but don't loooove it & was thinking of switching when I run out.  Was it tough to get the hang of how much to spray?  I was pleasantly surprised by the cost of the Dior foundations too - it seems a little pricey at first glance but the bottles are huge and it lasts for ages.

  • Revlon Colorstay for foundation and concealer. MAC for studio fix powder, eyeshadow and blush. Almay intense i-color mascara is awesome! I've gotten many complements on it too.
