The Great Hair Experiment of 2010 (pics tomorrow)

So, ever since I have gotten this haircut I have noticed 2 things consistently.

1. My hair looks FABULOUS after I sleep on it. If I could figure out a way to not touch or brush my hair after I wake up in the morning I would be thrilled.

2. With hair this short I do need to wash it every day.

So the experimentation begins. This morning, I just washed my bangs and then blew them dry. This was actually a bigger painintheass then washing my hair and styling it. And it took as long.

So, I am going to wash my hair right before I go to bed tonight (but not dry it) and see how it looks in the morning. If it looks ***, I will wash it tomorrow night but dry it before bed.

If I could cut dealing with my hair out of my morning routine it would be awesome.

This post of randomness and limited interest brought to you by the slow hospice care death of the board.

  • I only blow dry my bangs.  Everything else I let air dry.

Why does having it shorter make you have to wash it more frequently?  Is it just because you're continuously touching it?

  • My hair is way too dark and reddish.  That's all I've got.

  • Cali, for some reason even slightly greasy roots are more noticeable to me at this length. I assume because if my hair is sort of limp at this length you can really tell but when it was super long you it wasn't as noticeable.

    Fallin, what did you do?

  • I am two weeks overdue for my cut and color and it's driving me crazy.  I can't wait until Saturday.
  • Mod, could you wash it at night, and just use dry shampoo or some other kind of styling product on your bangs in the morning?  I love the days I can skip washing my hair and still have it look decent.
  • I used light caramel brown, which it seems is better called medium-dark copper brown.

SkiCC, probably. The dry shampoo I have now is black, and my hair is currently sort of a dark auburn, so I have not experimented with that yet.

  • I would give my left leg for a cut and color. I had an appointment schedule for a few days after I got put on bedrest. My hair is now dark brown with a shiitload of grey. I'd also pay big money for a brow wax.

  • I haven't had my hair cut/colored since before we left for Peru.  It's grown-out, and bleached from the sun and pool, with lots of dark roots and gray.  I finally got an appointment for next week, and am so excited you have no idea.  Whoo-hoo!  Big night at the salon!

Mod, I just use the cheap, white dry shampoo.  The funny thing is that I asked at my salon, and they recommended the same thing, and were selling it for a slight mark-up.  One of the women there said she tried all types, and this works as well and isn't strongly scented, so why not?

  • I'm happy with my hair.  That's mainly because it's lovely - the color is great - I went darker (auburny/chestnut) so I no longer match Miles, and the cut is fantastic.  I happen to have awesome hair.  Really, it's my best quality.  That, and my winning personality and zest for life, of course.

I never wash my hair in the morning.  I wash and blow dry at night, only because I'm very lazy and really don't want my morning routine to take more than 25-30 mins.  It normally looks good enough in the morning, though definitely better when it's freshly styled.

  • I think I am too lazy to wash and blow dry my hair at night vs in the morning. Yes I realize this is backwards but it just seems like way more effort at night.
  • I'm getting my hair colored for the first time in 3 years (aside from one pitiful home dye job) on Friday. I can't wait. I have so many squiggly silver hairs it's unreal.
    image Ready to rumble.
  • I'm really lucky I have good hair because I'm completely unwilling to do anything to it.  I wash it every two days (or when I get sweaty in between), brush it when I get out of the shower, and I usually brush it in the morning when I get out of bed.  I would say I forget to do that at least 15% of the time.  The only bad thing is that when I do have the occasional bad hair day, I have no idea what to do with it and I end up looking like a bag lady.

Mod, if you have a great cut (and you do) I bet it does look good after you've slept on it.  I'd go the dry shampoo route if you think it needs some drying out in the morning.

  • Nov your comment about no longer matching Miles made me LoL re Babs hairdye baby comment of yesteryear.

I colored my hair over the weekend. Out of a box. It's an auburn color and everyone keeps telling me how great it looks and how much better I look with my natural color....I'm naturally a blonde. Indifferent

My mom's hair is naturally auburn and I do have her skin tone but my dad's hair color. I'm just smiling and taking the compliment as I hope it was intended.

  • I can keep that almost just out of bed look fullness by putting a large, loose clip and collecting most of the side hair and about half the top.  Not too tight because it can damage your hair. (what ever happened to scrunchies)

Wash it at night and then put in up. When you take it down it will be in a soft style, unlike heated curlers, rods or irons.

  • I hate each and every one of you. My hair takes ridiculous amounts of time. It's too frizzy and wavy to be allowed to dry on its own, too oily to be washed the night before, and so thick that drying and straightening take a lifetime.

I suspect this is because of Mississippi's heat and humidity. You should move somewhere more conducive to easy hair. May I suggest San Diego?

  • I shower at night and let my hair air dry because I'm too lazy to do it in the mornings.  It looks so-so after being slept on all night (and sometimes one side will be all flattened from me laying on it for too long), but I don't care enough to wake up early to shower.  I also haven't gotten my hair cut or dyed since July/August of last year, so I'm used to it looking like crap all the time.

  • I love my current cut, too. I wash my hair at night, blow dry my bangs, scrunch in a dab of volumizing mousse, then in the morning I run the flatiron over my bangs, work some texturizing goop through the rest of my hair, spray, and I'm good to go.

Results were acceptable but ultimately disappointing. I will try again tonight but blow dry my hair before bed. Please excuse dorky expressions and bad skin. I had been awake for about 10 minutes.

  • the overall style to your hair looks great out of bed. Mine is stuck to my neck in a sweaty tangled mess.

I am considering chopping my hair off. It ends up pulled out or clumped together with saliva or spit up all the time.
