Poll: Do you make your bed everyday?

Don't worry, your mom won't see this--be honest!  Big Smile[Poll]

Re: Poll: Do you make your bed everyday?

  • If it was up to me, it would be made every day. However, I leave for work before DH gets up, and he just doesn't see the "point" in making the bed.

    *Sigh*

I try to straighten it up when I get home, though, as I like climbing into a nicely turned-down bed at night.

  • I love climbing into a nicely turned down bed too! I'm trying to get into the habit of making the bed, but it's hard!

  • I would only make the bed if guests were going to see it or if the sheets and blanket were just washed.

I don't see the point. I am don't straighten things that are just going to be messed up in 24 hours or less. It's an utter waste of time.

  • Usually DH does it because he gets out of bed after me.... the bed is made every day.... but not always well. But, I am grateful that it gets done at all.

  • We kind of pull the comforter up, but dog thrashes it pretty well, so it's kind of pointless. I actually toss my pillow in the closet, to keep her from drooling on it.

    Too funny!

  • Only when my mother comes over because she makes it a point to be annoying about it if it's not made.

     But otherwise, what's the point?

  • It's funny because I was raised to make my bed every single morning (to the point that I would get grounded if I didn't!) but once I moved out of my parents house, that habit did not stick with me!! My husband, however, makes the bed EVERY morning. He isn't the one who is anal about cleaning or having everything in it's place (that's me), but for some reason, he needs to have the bed made as soon as he gets out!!
  • Bed gets made probably 95% of the time- some mornings we're just running a little late or whatever and it doesnt happen.  Ours is pretty easy though, just two twin size duvets to pull up, then a coverlet pulled over them and toss the pillows on top.

I like having the blankets straightened out before I get in at night, and we often hang out and read books with DD on it when we get home from work/daycare, so it's nice to not have twisted blankets in the way.

  • DH is usually gone for work before me, and I always make the bed as soon as I climb out.  If he's off during the week when I have to work, it doesn't get made.  On the days the bed doesn't get made, I make it as soon as I get home.  Seeing a made bed just makes me feel like the house is neater.  I am by no means a neat freak, but seeing a neat bed motivates me to clean after a long day at work.  I also think my bed feels warmer after having the comforter pulled up all day.  We keep our bedroom door closed to keep the dog off the bed.

Before we moved in together, DH and I were complete opposites about the bed.  I never made my bed at my dad's house, and DH always made his bed at his parents' house.  DH probably doesn't feel pressured by his mommy anymore. Stick out tongue

  • DH could care less but I try to make it ever day or at least pull up the covers.  The kids beds ahrdly ever get made unless I make them aafter nap time by then for me it is close to bed time, ha!!

I agree! That's the only time my bed gets made as well.

  • Never. No one ever goes into my bedroom, so why bother?
  • I generally make it every morning, but sometimes I don't get to it. I'd say that our bed is made 5 out of 7 days during the week.

  • I make the bed most days, but really all it involves is straightening the sheet and pulling up the comforter.

I also don't get the "what's the point" attitude.  If I apply the same logic to my kitchen, such as what's the point in washing the dishes, I'll only mess them up again tomorrow, my house would be disgusting.  As for the bed, I straighten it up when I'm done with it, just like I would straighten the kitchen when I finished eating.

    exactly.

I never made my bed as a kid, but when I went off to college my bed became everything because in a dorm room it's your bed, your couch, your table. I started making it every day so my friends could sit on it and I haven't stopped. Not that anyone besides FI and our dogs ever sees our bed, but I like climbing into a nicely made bed at the end of the night (plus it keeps the dogs off the sheets)

Nah, not the same at all. The bed linens won't mold or attract insects if you leave them undone all day. If you don't wash the dishes, however, they get disgusting. Now never changing the linens can be compared to never washing the dishes. :)

We don't make the bed unless company will see it or we're changing the linens (and even when changing the linens we're not terribly picky). DH is too lazy to bother although he likes a nicely turned down bed- and I actually prefer crawling into a messy bed and wrapping myself up in covers. It drives me nuts to be in a bed with all the sheets and covers tucked and turned down- it feels like sleeping in a sandwich (or a tent) instead of curling up with my covers draped cozily around me.

  • I definitely don't now a days. Altho I do like to straighten everything before I get into bed, so maybe I should just make it in the morning :) DH and I are the only ones who see it and we don;t have dogs either. If I'm showing the house for guests who have never seen it, sure I'll make the bed, otherwise not. In college I did every day but that was because in your dorm room you did everything on your bed, homework, eating, etc. so you had to make it so everything didn't get into your bed sheets.
  • No I really wish I could get in the habit of it but my BF works nights and I work days so he is always the last one out of bed and I am already at work when he gets up. And on weekends I just forget because I never have to do it during the week. I love getting in a fresh made bed when I do remember though!

My parents make their's everyday. My mom used to do it every morning but she got sick of it so they made a rule that whoever gets out of bed last has to make it. Not only did their bed get made every morning but they had fun with it because it was almost a race to get out of bed first since they usually got up at the same time anyways haha
